I provide in-person and virtual (phone, telehealth) mental health services to individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, addiction, grief, focus, or self-esteem issues as well as individuals who simply wish to become the best version of themselves.
I often say, "It's hard being human!" In this journey of life, we all need support and compassion, especially during challenging times. You do not have to struggle alone! I offer hope for healing through effective mental health strategies. I use evidence-based therapies including mind-body techniques that help break negative cycles of stress, anxiety, and emotions. My goal is to provide a warm and supportive space to build tools and strategies to realize your individual, couple or family’s mental and emotional health. This begins in a comfortable place where you can share your story and begin to develop a roadmap to wellness.

Client needs are my FIRST priority. I am a specialist in evidence-based treatments (EBT), which radically improves my client's success rates, increases effectiveness of treatment, and gets results quickly. The majority of my client's report improvements, within the first session: life-functioning (work- home-school-relationships) and report immediate reduction in symptoms. Reducing anxiety/panic, decreasing depression, developing stronger coping strategies to stress and balancing mood dysregulation are my specialty, as symptoms can result from adjustment challenges to sudden life changes: parenthood/divorce/ grief/college. We collaborate on thinking traps, tracking triggers, modifying behavior, successful coping skills and strengthening resiliency.

I work with individuals, couples, children and families struggling with anxiety, grief and loss, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, and life transitions to find new insights for coping with the challenges they are facing.
Deciding to seek therapy can seem overwhelming and yet could be the most important decision you make for yourself and your loved ones. Facing our fears and recognizing we need help facing life’s challenges is the first step in healing our wounded self or our dysfunctional family interactions. I see this desire to change or get to the root of our difficulties as a sign of mental health, not as weakness or “being broken.” I believe that everyone is doing the best that they can with the tools they have and change happens when we realize our ways of being in the world are no longer working for us.

I see therapy as a gateway to strengthening our authentic self through healing, learning, acceptance and growth. It is often through our self-proclaimed imperfections that we find the greatest gifts, insights and points of focus that help us understand and become clear about the path we are walking and the possibilities that are before us. We have all known suffering, loss, trauma and despair. These experiences may shape us but they do not have to define us.

In my role as a clinical therapist I have found my passion in helping others remember and re-experience their own strengths and courage. I use a combination of several clinical interventions that have a strong solution focused baseline with plenty of room carved out for processing and simply feeling what needs to be felt. In my work I focus heavily on those who are seeking to recover from trauma, the impacts of severe and persistent mental health symptoms, religious trauma, sexual abuse as well as those who face anxiety, depression and ADHD symptoms.

People enter into a counseling relationship when nothing else seems to be working. Although most people soon make comments such as, “(Counseling) was a lot better than I thought it would be”, few people seek counseling as a first option. More often we seek out techniques that either help us to temporarily avoid (e.g., media, social networking) our anxiety, or we seek temporary shots of pleasure (e.g., alcohol, food, pornography) that make us feel good for a short time. Soon enough we realize that all of these things leave us feeling more hollow and lonely, and that is when we start thinking about counseling.

As a holistic-minded therapist who works with both individuals and couples, I see the counseling process as an opportunity to examine old ways of relating to oneself and explore new ways of interacting. I use a whole-body approach to guide clients in becoming more self-aware and finding the strength to initiate long-term positive change for themselves. With couples, my goal is to improve intimacy and commitment using a research-based approach that identifies your strengths, and models healthy relationship patterns. Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
