Hello! I am honored for you to consider me as your therapist. I live in North Georgia with my husband, daughter, and pets. I am particularly interested in helping those in key transition phases of their lives, such as young adulthood and entering retirement. I also have a special connection with those experiencing grief, facing terminal illness, those involved in caregiving of family members, and those coping with chronic pain in their own lives, especially fibromyalgia. I relax by enjoying many arts and crafts, readings, and spending time with my loved ones.

Normal life is hard. But when you’re also struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or addiction, it can feel exhausting or even unbearable. Plus, it seems like everyone else is busy or struggling too, so you feel very alone. Maybe you’ve tried traditional talk therapy and it didn’t really work for you. Or perhaps you’re a Christian, struggling with the fact that you’re struggling. You’ve been taught that faith should overcome it all. Still, you find yourself stuck and overwhelmed, and you feel like you just can’t break through. You want to feel free.

My counseling style has always been focused on building a strong therapeutic alliance with my client. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My motto is that we all have bad situations in life ( death, abuse, divorce, etc.) that we experience in life that can trigger some negative thoughts, emotional feelings, etc., and it is important to respond to these situations in a healthy manner or we tend to stay in that negative space longer than we ever intended. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral therapy, DBT, rational-emotive counseling, and client-centered therapy.

My experience and support given to me over the years has given me the ability to treat a wide variety of issues from anxiety and depression to marriage and grief.
I used to ask myself, "What am I going to do with my life?". Life has a funny way of pointing us in a direction and I followed it. Since 2009, I've been working with individuals, teens, children, families and couples in a variety of work settings. I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2007 from Georgia State University then graduated from Argosy University in 2010 with a Master's in Community Counseling.

My focus is on chronic illness/chronic pain/disability, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, medical trauma, women's issues, and stress management.
Life can be challenging from time to time. Counseling is one way to deal with the life stressors while learning and applying new tools to your toolbox. Therapy is individualized to the person I am working with; not through a one-size-fits-all approach. In 2011, I graduated with a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling & Case Management from Fort Valley State University. I have been in private practice for 12 years as a licensed professional counselor (LPC).

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
