EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), a powerful combination of brain science and mindfulness, is a highly effective therapy that is used to treat trauma/PTSD, grief, anxiety, depression, and many other mental health conditions.
Are you trying to heal from a traumatic or sudden loss? Maybe the loss from a suicide, a tragic accident, a sudden death of a child, spouse, parent? You might still be in shock or disbelief, the tapes of your last moments are on repeat in your mind, or feel engulfed with sadness or even anger. You want to be able to look at pictures of your loved one and smile rather than have your heart break all over again. You want to be present with your family and friends and begin to feel joy again. You want to still feel a connection to your loved one even if it's different than when he/she was alive. We work together to help you live again.

We work on noticing and transforming current patterns. As clients gain a deeper connection to themselves and greater insight into their stories and their loved ones, they find new ways to create peace and fulfillment in their lives.

As a licensed psychologist, I help clients in individual therapy to gain awareness and understanding of their particular issue. From there options become available and are exercised. Through this continuous process, growth and change occurs. This process is different for each individual and each issue. The goal is to reduce distress and to turn things around so you are managing the issue/mood instead of it managing or arresting you. The types of issues I have expertise in are mood (especially anxiety and depression) disorders, relationship issues, self-esteem, grief/ loss, family of origin issues, life changes and personal growth.

My philosophy is that "It takes courage to be happy. . . again." So many people will stay stuck in a life situation and before long, it starts to feel "comfortable" at least to the extent that it is either too scary or too difficult to try to make those necessary changes. Often, it takes the guidance of a trusted therapist to help one discover where, how, and why a person is stuck, to point out distorted thinking, and to help map a plan for progress towards a goal. My 25 years of experience in the field creates my philosophy and approach. Let's begin the journey.

Living day to day feels surreal and fake. You can remember a time when you were really you, but what happened? Pushing past panic attacks, anxiety, self destruction, rage restlessness, fatigue, depression or dissociation is getting harder. Little did you know that bad experiences in childhood and traumas you may have forgotten are causing this and it feels hopeless. I can help you alleviate the profound suffering you are experiencing and offer a way out for those who have lost hope. I practice cutting edge Brainspotting to access the primitive brain where all of this is stored. Often trauma is not healed with talk therapy alone.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
