Are you still struggling with feelings of not being enough, being too much, insecurity in relationships, rejection sensitivity, and fear of abandonment? Did you grow up in a dysfunctional family atmosphere? Did trauma(s) during crucial developmental years affect the way you connect with yourself and others? I focus on working with adults who are coping with the effects of developmental/complex PTSD (cPTSD) and/or growing up in a dysfunctional family environment. Trauma is an experience that overwhelms our ability to cope. In relationships a rupture (physical or emotional) in our primary attachment can cause traumatic effects.

Khalil Family Wellness & Intervention has two primary goals:First-to inform and educate the community about gateway behaviors that may result in self-destructive outcomes. Second-to provide a drug-free intensive outpatient program which empowers and supports an individual's purposeful decision to choose a lifestyle free of self-destructive behaviors. We employ a "Whole Person" approach in order to educate an individual on how to achieve the best expression of their Mind, Body and Spirit. Our program is a unique, non-drug treatment center dedicated to caring for each individual with dignity, in a effort to guide them to a healthy and drug free rest of their lives and move beyond underlying problems to true and complete recovery. We are committed to empowering all those who enter our facility so that they may achieve and inner-directed fulfillment of their own potential. We recognize that each person is individual and responds in different ways. Our approach incorporates drug-free treatment protocols to address the underlying issues. Our resources enable us to evaluate and deal with each person's specific needs, enriching the treatment experience and heightening the chance for full and lasting recovery.

I support individuals through issues such as depression, anxiety, adjusting to change, family issue, addiction, and grief.
I believe we all have the power within ourselves to create the lives we desire. As humans, we are much more capable and resilient than our brains allow us to believe. Sometimes we may lose sight, need guidance, or someone to acknowledge our humanity, value, feelings, and strengths. Seeking mental health assistance can feel like a very scary step, and my goal is to make you feel as comfortable and empowered as possible.

My experience includes working with individuals who struggle with addiction, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and self-harm. I believe that early childhood trauma and dysfunctional family experiences are often stored in our bodies and can create dysregulated emotional, physical, and behavioral responses that greatly impact our quality of life and relationships. These stored experiences manifest in our daily lives, influencing how we feel, think, and behave. I am here to help guide you through your healing journey, helping you process past traumas, build healthier coping mechanisms, and develop a stronger sense of self.

I work with teens and adults who are seeking help with depression, anxiety, family relationships, marital discord, social difficulties, grief, loss and transitions.
As a therapist, the relationship I develop with clients is based on respect, support and encouragement, and is focused on building their individual strengths and resources. I believe that a nonjudgmental and welcoming environment is crucial to provide a safe space for clients discuss past and current issues and move forward. In addition to private practice, I also work as a bereavement specialist for a Michigan hospital system assisting individuals who have experienced major loss. My experience includes supporting individuals and families navigating significant health crises.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
