I am a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of evaluation and psychotherapy expertise. It is my pleasure to work collaboratively with adults of all ages to help them live their best lives! I am especially skilled at helping others achieve fulfillment in love and work and resolving negative interpersonal habits so that friendships, family and romantic relationships are more pleasurable and stable. I am especially interested in improving self esteem issues and helping women overcome "people pleasing" habits so that their own feelings and needs come first.

Simultaneously, I worked for an outpatient mental health clinic, providing individual, couples, and family therapy.
Together, we will complete a consultation and an intake process to explore your history as well as current events that led you to seek treatment. From there, we will explore a goal or two that you would like to work toward. Throughout the clinical process, we will explore and discuss achievements, milestones, and progress. I like to use a reflective process to ensure you feel as though you are benefiting from sessions. We will engage in some exercises to facilitate discussions and an exploration of growth and development. I genuinely enjoy working with diverse groups of people and age ranges.

I have been an alcohol counselor, a crisis counselor, a clinical psychologist, a psychoanalyst, a family/couples therapist, and a supervisor.
Anxiety, depression, relationship problems and stressful life transitions often trigger the desire to seek help from a psychotherapist. It is my role to create an atmosphere of trust and safety conducive to the telling of your story and challenges and then exploring new ways of working on these. I like to introduce different ways of thinking about a problem to open up various possibilities and solutions. Together, we work to move you closer to your goals.

Andrea and the systemic psychotherapy center have two main areas of research and expertise: family therapy, complex trauma (PTSD).
Andrea is the Clinic and Training Director of the Systemic Psychotherapy Center, a Bilingual (Spanish- English) Group Practice. She developed her principle of systemic psychotherapy based on the utilization of a diverse range of clinical techniques (from science and art), but also a broad capacity of introspection (from spirituality). Andrea's commitment to healing led her to create training programs and psychotherapeutic techniques to expand awareness, such as flamenco psychotherapy (a dance and music technique to heal somatic complaints caused by traumatization). She also taught family systems therapy at Fordham University.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
