If you, your relationship, or your entire family needs a space to feel supported and heard, I share this in a manner that will hopefully allow for peace.
You have been struggling for a while now. “Oh if we can get through this week/month/season, things will get better”, you think. But if nothing improves, it may be time to book a session to organize your thoughts. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I enjoy seeing couples and families as a system, with each person moving both independently and together to form cohesion. As a licensed Mental Health Counselor, I can also help you individually find the coping skills and tools to allow your autonomous self to achieve the optimal health and wellness you want and deserve.

I work with children, teens, adults, and couples to find healing in the areas of trauma, grief, depression, family dynamics, and relationship issues.
Greetings! My name is Clarissa Melvin. I am excited and very blessed to serve God's people. In life, we all have struggles and oppositions. What do you do with the hurt, the pain, the struggle, the disappointment that you can’t let go of, and the negative thoughts that continue to plague you? Are you tired of facing it all alone? At times it is helpful to have someone to come along beside you to navigate these challenges. You owe it to yourself to connect with a therapist who will assist and be hopeful with you.

I look forward to working with you, your spouse and your family in an environment that is free of judgement and filled with grace.
As we travel the roads of life, it is common for us to encounter a variety of challenges along the way. These challenges surface in our marriages, with our relatives, our children, in our careers and even in our spiritual relationships. Most of the time we are able to overcome these challenges on our own, but sometimes we need a little help to get us back on track. Whether it's an unfaithful spouse, a difficult teen, family drama, or difficulty accomplishing personal goals, therapy can help you make the changes you desire.

As an Emotionally-Focused Marriage and Family Therapist, I lead couples and families to the healthy and loving relationships they deserve.
We all long to be loved and have a genuine connection to our partner and family members. However, a variety of circumstances may hinder the connection we desire. With my guidance, we will unpack the barriers to connection, restore healthy relationship dynamics and implement effective communication skills. Premarital services are offered for couples who are preparing to transition into a union. Couples who wish to maintain their relationship find it helpful to learn preventative skills to keep a good thing going. I provide individual therapy from a systemic approach as well, to build self-esteem, overcome anxiety & set boundaries.

I have been serving and helping others for 30 years through parent and family education, spiritual formation, pastoral counseling, spiritual care education, and now counseling through private practice.
Life is an adventure. All of us are challenged on our journey. Sometimes we need help considering where we’re at and where we’re going. We offer an effective and collaborative therapeutic environment based on trust, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. We hold your personal stories with respect and compassion. When life is out of balance or mental health concerns get in the way, counseling can be a life-line.

**Free 30-min Video Consultation** Being in the circus taught me that juggling too many balls in the air can lead to feeling like you're always picking up the pieces rather than enjoying the show. While our emotions float up and down, we start applying binary labels of "good" (happy) and "bad" (anger, sadness, anxiety) that our systems (e.g., US Society, Family, Culture) has assigned. Improve self-awareness of our emotions, thoughts, and the stories we tell ourselves about our worth internally, with others, and in the world. Change the Narrative you've internalized through identifying, observing, respecting, and accepting emotions.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
