In our fast-paced world, it is easy to become anxious, depressed, angry, and/or overwhelmed. If it feels unmanageable at times, that makes sense. Our brains weren’t designed to be flooded with so much information globally and in our personal lives with minimal support. Add in additional stressors such as trauma, challenging family dynamics, or parenting, and it can feel like a pressure cooker ready to explode. However, you are not alone. Therapy is a wonderful tool to help release pressure and learn ways to manage challenging emotions so that you can be your best self.

Working through family relationship challenges with spouse, parents, young or adult children, siblings or other category of family? Those are the relationships that are viewed by society as loving, healthy and positive, yet many of those relationships are not. I can help you sort through the relationship and work together to figure out the best way forward.

Groups for individuals engaged in sexual abusing, pornography and family members are available.
Effective therapy develops goals for change. Treatment also supports establishing new ways of experiencing life, behaviors and relationships. My private practice emphasizes making change through openness and trust, and building a personal plan that suits your unique life circumstance. There is no prescription for the length of therapy; some changes can occur with a few sessions and others may taken longer. Having realistic goals can help define when therapy is completed. Feeling stuck? Wishing for change? Fear of the future? We go through struggles that test our ability to find joy and experience pleasure. It is often our relationships with friends, family and especially our partners that take the brunt of these taxing times. It is common that our intimate relationships get tagged as the reason for our hurt and pain or are the most negatively impacted. Blame can drive a wedge and damage intimacy. Ironically, it is within our intimate relationships that we find the majority of our most meaningful experiences. Experiences that result in feeling that joy and pleasure we so desperately desire.

If you're looking for a counselor who’s knowledgeable, professional and also relatable, I may be a good fit for you and/or your family.
If you’re a teenager or a parent of a teenager, it goes without saying that your relationship with each other is far from perfect. You think, “I can’t trust them,” or “Why don’t they understand my side of this situation?” Maybe you’ve even mustered up the courage to talk with each other about the problem; but what you’d hoped would be a productive, heart-felt conversation resulted only in yelling, tears, or both. You need a space where you can express your thoughts and feelings with support from a caring professional who’s trained to treat mental health disorders as well as the day-to-day challenges faced by teens and families.

It's more common than we recognize to feel depleted or lost. Sometimes life has a way of challenging us, pushing our limits or asking us to expand even when we're not sure we can. To navigate these uncertainties, including the possibility of failure, we need support in this journey of self-discovery; to be authentically seen and accepted for who we are without judgement. Though it may be uncomfortable, having your experiences validated can ultimately be liberating, and I am committed to helping you go there. Whether it be past or present, how to get started or what the solution looks like, we will figure it out, together.

Imagine having everything you need to be the "best" you, but not knowing how to fully access it. This word "resilience" has become such a popular term and it can be amazing to help us cope with life, if we know how it truly works and how to access it. I specialize in youth and adult anxiety, depression, substance abuse, trauma and much more. Although most of these issues can cause problems in daily life. These problems are manageable and I am willing to help you create the narrative of your best self.

Thank you for visiting my page. It can truly be a difficult and vulnerable task to engage in counseling. And fear not, I will be you every step of the way. I have a very eclectic style which aligns with many clients' needs. Is it a relationship issue, grief and loss or anxiety and depression- these concerns can truly paralyze one's ability to live life holistically and freely. You will find me to be caring, direct and sensitive, and very client centered. I have a strong listening skill, empathy towards one’s pain, and an uplifting spirit that sets me apart from other counselors.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
