My approach to therapy is relational and client-centered. I firmly believe that having a safe and supportive relationship with a client is the most important part of the therapy process. I help clients identify their inherent strengths and then together we identify what is getting in the way of living the life they want to be living.

I believe that all people have the ability to change and grow. The ability to make those changes lives within us, but sometimes we need support to move forward. I have experience working with adults on anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship issues, and more. Clients who work best with me are open-minded and ready to actively engage in their therapy sessions.

I am enlivened by guiding others on their journey to greater peace and joy in this world where it is easy to be bogged down by suffering and negative energy. As isolation grows, communication and relationships suffer. We and our children become anxious, depressed, turn to negative coping methods whether it is unhealthy relationships, substances, food, excessive exercise, overworking, or a myriad of other behaviors to not have to feel our feelings. What if we make the changes that need to be made. Accept the things that cannot be changed and find peace in the process.

Accepting New Clients+ The "game-changers" for my clients are the "AHA" moments; the moments they find themselves thinking about something differently than before. That moment can change a person, and it can change their destiny. The majority of my clients are young adult females looking to understand what’s wrong with them… dating life, home life, work life… it all seems too overwhelming and there are more questions than answers. The aha moments come when we connect the dots between childhood experiences and current mind-set. There is nothing wrong with you; and what happened is not your fault.

My ideal client is someone who is currently lost or overwhelmed and wanting to come alive again after a major loss or transition. Or has been dealing with a physical illness, and now wants support in coming back into life in a new way. It can be easy to forget that we are not the lives we have created, we are so much more. Having help recognizing where you are going and why, and dealing with the problems that show up along the way can be necessary in looking at exactly what is happening, why they are happening, and what you want/need to change to make things so much easier to handle so you can bring in joy, peace, and your dreams.

***Evening appointments available*** We all experience times in our lives when we need someone to talk to, someone to listen, someone to help us see things from a different perspective. Whether it’s times of sadness, feeling overwhelmed, or simply finding ourselves at a crossroads, these situations can leave us feeling uncertain about how to move forward successfully in life. For more than fifteen years, I have been helping people to change their lives by increasing their understanding of themselves and the people around them.

I am a bilingual (Spanish) clinician who is focused on helping adults find their path to mental health recovery. Life is filled with challenges, past and present, that at times can leave us feeling, drained, overwhelmed and hopeless. You may not know how to access those tools or may need some guidance on how to skillfully use them to work in your favor. My goal is to guide you in that journey of self-discovery and healing so that you can feel empowered and ready to face whatever comes your way.

I believe everyone deserves to live the most whole versions of themselves, whatever they define that as. I therefore do my best to help individuals become clear about what it is they want out of this phase of their life and support them in taking the steps towards achieving it. I see therapy as a collaborative process, where together therapist and client create a safe, non-judgmental, brave and honest space to move towards change. As a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), I specialize in helping individuals manage anxiety and depressive related symptoms as well as processing and healing from traumatic event(s) and life experiences.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
