I am grateful to have been a part of helping so many individuals, couples, and blending families resolve their issues over the past 35 years. While the experience has honed my therapy skills, each new person or relationship is unique and requires exploring solutions that fit their individual personality.

I also work with teens, couples and families.
Many of us have arrived at points in life where we feel alone and lost. Disappointments, losses and wounds leave us feeling that we are not enough, disconnected, hopeless and stuck. Whether life has brought new obstacles that feel impossible to cope with, or if you have past wounds that you don’t know how to heal from, I would be honored to be part of your journey. In our time together, I will work to help you finally find freedom from the lies that hold you back from living a meaningful, satisfying and connected life. You will find that I am empathetic, gentle and insightful, helping you feel safe and offering a new perspective.

This treatment approach is very effective with all mood disorders, anxieties, trauma's, relationship issues, grief etc.
Everyone has problems. We cannot control the circumstances or people that show up in our lives, but we can decide how we are going to respond to them. Not knowing how you feel, what you think or what you want contributes to confusion, frustration, anxiety and depression. Establishing your own authentic self, as opposed to what others want you to be, can be a difficult task. Developing assertive communication skills and understanding your own emotional boundaries are essential to managing distressing symptoms and situations. I can help you take charge of your life and create the one you want.

Life isn't always what we imagined it would be - especially when we are facing anxiety, depression, trauma, or conflict with people we care about. Meaning, peace, and belonging can feel unattainable on our dark days. If you are feeling disconnected from yourself, others, or the life you want to live, therapy could be your first step toward healing. It can help spark your imagination for how you want your life to be and initiate steps toward change. Your relationship with yourself and those you care about can experience a new start and you can begin living fully again.

It feels like you're not going to be able to do this much longer. No, the relationship isn't going to end. It's just that something has got to give. You've literally said everything you can say to help your partner understand what you need. Explaining, negotiating, yelling, managing. All in hopes that something will click. That something will create change. At this point you don't know how it's gotten so painful and lonely. It's starting to feel a little helpless, maybe even hopeless, that you'll ever be able to have the connection that you once had again.

For those seeking improved self-awareness, I utilize enneagram motivation/personality typing, which is helpful in the context of any relationship and in understanding your own motivations and values.
I love working with clients who are motivated to make meaningful change in their lives. So many of us carry old stories about ourselves that we have outgrown or that were never really true in the first place. You can expect a non-judgmental atmosphere to explore what is true for you & what you really want for your life. I use trauma-sensitive care when working through prior wounds.

Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, work stress, or relationship conflict? Are you experiencing a transition such as marriage, childrearing, divorce, or job change? Do you feel isolated and unsure of how to move forward? It is difficult to deal with these issues alone and therapy can help. Choosing a therapist is an important decision, and it should be someone with whom you feel comfortable. I view therapy as an interactive process in which we work together to identify problems and find solutions. Therapy can provide you with the skills you need to make real changes in your life.

Starting individual counseling or couples counseling can be intimidating. I know it’s uncomfortable to open yourself up to someone and really take a look at the painful stories you carry around. Finding yourself can be a daunting task. What’s more uncomfortable is carrying around pain and other stressors. I am well versed in combating these powerful narratives and I am not afraid of authenticity. I believe that most stories are laced with grief such as divorce, loss or just simply losing yourself. Having experienced layers of grief in my own life, I am ready and willing to join you as you explore by doing the work in therapy.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
