My psychotherapy practice is informed by formal training in contemplative and psychodynamic therapies, valuing health and wellness. My framework is a natural outcome of my own ongoing therapeutic work and developing spiritual practice, allowing me to more fluently move between the spiritual language of love and compassion and the psychological language of emotional distress and resiliency. The focus is on the here and now, understanding that your early developmental experiences affect your present feelings, mood, and behavior, often masking your natural capacity for well-being. Those experiencing life changes, challenges, transitions, such as loss and grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, divorce, work-related issues would benefit.

I am a cognitive behavioral therapist with experience helping people feel better emotionally, behave more functionally and experience long-lasting change. I specialize in anxiety and depression, and employ a present-oriented, structured therapy that involves problem solving, mindfulness and looking at things from a new, more helpful perspective. I also employ outcome measures so we can closely gauge our progress, without having to make vague estimates. I studied applied psychology at New York University, and went on to receive my Doctor of Psychology at St. John's University where I received intensive CBT training.

This journey focuses on enhancing your strengths—creativity, empathy, authenticity—& embracing your ADHD or Autism, your neurodivergence, as a vibrant, unique lens to thrive on your own terms.
Living as an ADHD or Autistic adult can be frustrating and overwhelming. You might feel out of step with the world or misunderstood. Why don’t people just say what they mean? Why can’t people respect your process just because it’s different? Why can’t you feel more at peace with your body, mind, and senses? Our minds are colorful and complex, yet we struggle in a world not tailored to our unique patterns. Adapting and masking our true selves to fit in can be exhausting. The constant need to adapt, the feeling of being misunderstood, and the search for a space where you can be your true self is a path you need not walk alone.

The exchange between you and therapist should be safe, honest and challenging. But it should also have humor, some guidance toward other resources but mostly it should not feel antiseptic to you---not contrived or distant and removed. This is about you--your life and the trust you put into your therapist should be received with honor and returned to you with respect and truth and consistency of presence. I am not going to spend time here telling you the approach I use, the methodology I subscribe to because every approach is unique to the person with whom I am working. You are unique and so should be your therapy.

Are you a caretaker trying your hardest to understand a child or vice versa? Are you struggling with a relationship (familial, romantic, platonic, or professional)? Do your emotions, or the emotions of someone close to you feel out of control? Is it difficult for you to practice positive self-talk and refrain from comparing yourself to other people? We are all raised to believe specific ideas about who we are - beliefs that impact our decisions and behaviors. These concepts are frequently rooted in cultural norms and stereotypes that shape our identities and have an overbearing influence on our experiences.

I enjoy working with women from diverse backgrounds in a supportive and nonjudgmental manner. I believe that client is an expert of their own life, and of most importance to me is working with the client to achieve their goals - goals that we set together as we begin our work. I strive to meet the client "where they are" and move them forward to heal, change and grow in positive ways.

I work with adults, children, and couples who are seeking insight into the root causes of their suffering. We experiment with new understandings for persistent problems, allowing curiosity and empathy to lead the way. As your desires, conflicts, and feelings about yourself and others come to the surface, we look closely at them, and see how they connect to what you are dealing with now. This can change the nature of problems, and sometimes, liberate you from them entirely.

Psychotherapy is, most honestly, a very remarkable and often surprising kind of 'conversation.' The distinction being that when we have a 'conversation,' we only know where it will begin, but not where it will end. The 'getting there,' the movement toward 'the end,' is often a thought-provoking, pleasurable, funny, sad, profound experience that changes people in wholly positive ways. When therapist and patient develop a good working relationship, transformative things can happen. My work centers around creating a serious, useful, and private space to begin exploring the depths of what causes you to suffer, or feel misunderstood.

As someone who is neurodivergent, you struggle to connect with others. The constant feeling of being misunderstood often ignites frustration or anger, especially when advocating for your needs. Classmates, coworkers, romantic partners, and even friends have been shaming, rather than supportive. Because of this constant rejection, you have become accustomed to hiding what you are feeling, sensing, experiencing, and thinking. Over time, hiding becomes an instinctual way of trying to remain safe. This results in a pattern of self-doubt, anger, and exhaustion as you try to fit into a world that doesn’t understand your unique needs.

As an Integrative Therapist, I offer uniquely tailored care that goes beyond traditional psychotherapy. I am a Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapist who understands and celebrates neurodiversity. Typically, those who are drawn to working with me have been failed because of misunderstood neurological differences, including ADHD and C-PTSD. They have a need for specialized care that may not be commonly offered. I transcend standalone therapy to address this complexity.

As we walk through life, our experiences can often leave us feeling disconnected or even shattered; however, life also offers opportunities to heal in the deepest sense of the word. In our work together, it is my intention to walk alongside you as you find your way to your highest, most centered self. In my work, I have found that everyone collects trauma along the way and that within the context of a therapeutic relationship, meaning can be created and transformation occurs.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
