I often incorporate creative interventions and activities such as art, games, videos, or music.
I am a compassionate and experienced therapist dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of children, adolescents, and young adults ( college age). Do you struggle with fear and anxiety, often thinking you’re not good enough, or that no one likes you? Do you lack self confidence and often compare yourself to others? Are you afraid to try something new, thinking you will fail? Maybe you feel lonely or seem to have problems forming good relationships with others. Whatever you're going through, I provide a safe, non- judgmental space for you, students and adults to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Examples of what we will use are art and music therapy, mindfulness training, and interactive talk therapy using a variety of therapeutic approaches.
I have a passion for helping others find the best version of themselves. I want to help you find joy during the ups and downs in life. I meet clients where they are at and build upon strengths. I use a solution focused, trauma-based approach in therapy. I prefer to focus on what is right with someone, rather than what is wrong. I have been practicing therapy since 2010 and would love to work together to help you learn about yourself, process good and bad experiences, and help you find your path to happiness during any transition you may be going through. I will provide a safe, confidential space for you to express yourself.

The decision to st art therapy means you're ready for something to be different.
We feel pain in many ways; worry, anger, confusion, and sadness. Our past has taught us how to respond to these feelings. Problems st art when the way we have learned to cope is no longer working for us. My goal is to help identify thoughts, emotions, and action patterns. I promote mindfulness, art therapy, mind-body connection, and cognitive behavioral change. From there, we can collaborate to work toward your goals and find a more fulfilling way to live.

There is a lot of anxiety and uncertainty during these times. Voicing your stress and receiving support and validation in return can relieve some of that weight off your shoulders. Finding healthy ways to cope and allowing the time to focus on your needs are what we can do together to bring more stability into your life. As a counselor and art therapist, you will find yourself in an environment that centers on your self-growth and empowerment through talk therapy and creative expression. Neurodivergence, the recognition of more brain functioning than the neurotypical standard, is also a core practice you'll find with me.

As a master sculptor (automotive models for a major corporation) and multi-media artist professionally for 33 years, I have experienced again and again healing through art.
A professional therapist and so much more! When words are difficult to find, the ability to express ourselves through art is right at our fingertips. Best of all, there is an “artist” in all of us. I call it the intrinsic creative ability. Focusing on your art during counseling sessions results in more relaxation and less stress, anxiety and troubles. Consequently, your art makes room to discover the insights that heal and empower. Plus, it’s fun! Why does it work? Art therapy’s power lies in the process, not the end-product. Creating art is an enjoyable way to experience your personal power and safely visit your concerns.

As a counselor and art therapist, my approach comes with an understanding that people are multifaceted. When challenges arise, there is no cookie-cutter fix for the situation you may be facing as you are unique, and your therapy should be tailored to your needs. Talking about difficult matters can be hard, but it can be a little easier when you know you have someone you can trust to discuss them with. I come to sessions with the goal of being supportive, resourceful, authentic, and empathetic since building rapport is crucial to the therapeutic alliance.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
