I believe that therapy can help you “ride the wave" with hope, courage, and purpose. I believe in the power of relationships, and I believe therapists should be just as authentic as they ask of their clients. My commitment to you is to bring my whole self into our time together, just as I ask of you. I will encourage you to trust your gut, trust the process, and trust yourself in what you need. I firmly believe that therapy, like self-care, is not “one size fits all."

I often use mindfulness based strategies, including AEDP (an attachment-based theory) and IFS (Internal Family Systems), and interpersonal relational work.
I am so proud of you for starting this process of looking for a therapist for your self or someone you love. It takes tremendous courage to begin. I am a psychotherapist who believes strongly in the power of the therapeutic relationship, which can allow healing to take place. I work with individuals in adulthood and believe that therapy should be tailored to each individual. I meet with a wide variety of clients, including those with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, parenting and relational concerns, anger management, addictions and low self esteem.

When your relationship is off-track it can throw your whole life out of balance. Maybe your relationship has reached a crisis point and you are feeling confused, frustrated, or overwhelmed. Or, maybe your busy life has left little time for your relationship and your partner is beginning to feel like a roommate, or even worse, a stranger. Feeling disconnected and alone in your relationship was never part of the plan. Then again, the current challenges you’re experiencing may be coming from a past trauma that never healed, a transition to a new chapter of your life, or a search to truly connect with your authentic self.

Are you worried about your future together? Fighting too much, too often, too intensely? Or the opposite: avoiding conflict for fear of getting lost in it. Conflicts that are avoided or are too long and too intense and too difficult to recover from will all weigh you down. You know that things can be easier: you know you could communicate more efficiently, smarter, and get to have fun together on the other side this. What you need then is a therapist who can diagnose communicational difficulties and engineer solutions that keep you out of the same trouble in the future.

A person's trajectory in life can be offset by stress, strain and compromises. Therapy can re-orient a person to their core needs and strivings, allowing them to become more effective and engaged at work, home, and in relationships. Imagining positive change for yourself is an important step and yet taking that step can be challenging. "The best time to plant a tree was yesterday; The second best time is now." I look forward to hearing about what's happening in your life now.

AEDP Therapists

Who is AEDP therapy for?

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is for adults who have experienced emotional pain in the past that, because it has not been adequately addressed and processed, interferes with current functioning. The problems might manifest in a number of different ways, from excessive anger to relationship difficulties to PTSD to eating disorders, poor self-esteem, and depression. They may also be accompanied by physiological symptoms. AEDP helps people accept and digest challenging emotional experiences.

Why do people need AEDP?

People need AEDP as a way to manage distressing emotions—including anger, shame, and guilt—that in some way hamper the ability to function and form satisfying relationships in the present. The therapist-client relationship is believed to provide corrective emotional and relational experiences that facilitate positive changes in brain function, forge pathways for processing traumatic experiences, and allow resolution of emotional pain.

What happens in AEDP therapy?

Once individuals have established a strong bond with the AEDP therapist and the therapist has established a safe and secure environment, clients are encouraged to explore their most painful emotional experiences. They may be asked to pay attention to disquieting body sensations as well as to psychological discomfort. Individuals learn how to process emotions, rather than avoid them. Through the strength of the therapist-client bond, each session is intended to provide a powerful positive experience for individuals, enabling growth.

What problems does AEDP treat?

AEDP is intended to treat the unprocessed emotional pain caused by earlier distressing experiences, which commonly includes behavioral avoidance of current situations and experiences for fear that they will reactivate painful feelings. Emotional pain and avoidant behavior play a role in a wide array of mental health conditions, which is why AEDP is applied to the treatment of a range of disorders including depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship difficulties, and eating disorders.
