All of us strive to become our best selves and to reach our highest potential. But as humans we're also vulnerable to fear, anger and self-doubt due to past traumas, and life events that can get in the way and knock us off course. I have faced some of these challenges myself. Sometimes we need help from an outside professional who is open, knowledgeable and compassionate. Often just the opportunity to be heard and understood can itself be healing. And the tools and insights learned from therapy can be life-changing. It's not easy but with motivation and a desire to grow, along with the right therapist, real progress can occur.

I believe that marriage is a lifelong commitment and I also believe that it is a difficult task to maintain a healthy relationship over the course of the marriage. I seek to work with both partners in the relationship to help each discover ways they can support one another. I believe when both partners feel safe and secure in the relationship that most problems that arise are able to be dealt with in a healthy manner.

The struggles of life can become overwhelming, but change is possible. Stress, anxiety, and fear are just a few things you may be facing, but you do not have to face any of them alone. Reaching out for help is the first step towards restoration and growth.

I have been coming alongside individuals and families to provide understanding and motivation. I believe we are capable of finding peace emotionally and spiritually. I like using nature and activities in counseling along with art to help process our stories. We use metaphors in adventure therapy and interactive games in play therapy to grow in new ways. I have experience also as a coach, teacher, and youth leader. We have raised 2 children and had a foster son. I supervise Cathy who is a PLPC/CIT2 and enjoys working with women/teens. We all are skilled in interpersonal process therapy.

Life is beautiful but often/sometimes challenging. Some days we feel confident and happy while other days we may feel alone or overwhelmed. The clients I work with are seeking new tools, skills, techniques and interventions to help them feel better, more in control and empowered on a daily basis. I work with adolescents, young adults, adults and elders experiencing life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, low self-esteem and more. Everyone deserves to have a safe space, with unconditional support that allows them to be authentically themselves, always.

Many of us haven't been given the space to feel, but know this: your feelings are always valid. If you're navigating a life change, struggling with daily challenges, unsure about parenting, or processing traumatic or childhood experiences, I'm here to help. I guide clients in identifying their own strategies to address these challenges, and if you just need a safe space to talk, I'm here for you too.

When I was serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine, the comfort of someone speaking my language was immeasurable. Speaking your language is important to me. Whether it’s through humor, warmth, empathy, or directness, I strive to make therapy relieving rather than another foreign experience. When therapists discuss what type of therapy they do, is it just another set of abbreviations with absolutely no meaning? Let me be your translator. I deeply value education, so if you are unfamiliar with any of the therapies I list below, I will explain extensively as to how they work within session. If you like learning, I'm your person.

My ideal client is a minor who is still figuring things out. Perhaps they are processing a traumatic event or adjusting to typical life transitions. The majority of my clients are learning to live and thrive with anxiety and ADHD. I enjoy helping my clients reach their goals of coping skills, better communication, identification and expression of different feelings, impulse control and decision making. These are life long skills that I hope will equip them for the big world we live in!

The truth is life can be hard and things can be tough. We may feel down on our luck or even feel hopeless that things will never change. Depression, anxiety, sleepless nights, confusion and stress happen to the best of us and it is ok to reach out to a professional. It is normal to feel lost and uncertain sometimes on how to take a step forward towards living a more enjoyable life defined by your own terms. I believe reaching goals and true change can happen with the right mindset and tools, which I strive to help my clients develop in the most effective way!

Does your child seem sad or withdrawn, become defiant or aggressive at home? Are they having a hard time making friends at school? Have they ever come to you and said they have nothing to live for? What about you, are you struggling as a parent due to your child’s emotional needs or is it causing conflicts within your family or marriage? Children and families face so many stressors. I believe change and growth are possible. Your child can learn coping skills to help them advocate for what they need and manage their emotions. Families can return to a calm and peaceful state.

Do you feel or does your child or teen feel overwhelmed, anxious, less confident, not understood or sad and just need someone to talk to. We want gravitate to others who get it and have a desire to feel relief when we have all the feelings. We have goals in life to be more capable, courageous, feel connection and feel like we matter. What if you could have those goals, what would that mean to you or your child? What if we could work together to work through your feelings and goals and in turn produce positive behavior change?

I believe that no matter what age you are, most emotional struggles stem from a feeling of disconnection - from self, family and friends, or the world in general. You may feel as if you aren't yourself lately, or as if relationships have become difficult to navigate. Possibly you're having a hard time staying present and engaging in the world around you. If you are seeking therapy for your child or your teen, it may seem as if their behaviors or reactions don't match up to the situation they are in. Feeling seen, heard, and understood in therapy can allow adults and children to build or repair connections to self and others.

Adlerian Therapists

How does Adlerian psychology work?

In the framework of Adlerian therapy, people are motivated by a sense of belonging and community, which drives them to surmount feelings of inferiority so as to contribute to their society; fulfilling these desires can help people flourish. Adlerian therapy proceeds in four stages—engagement, assessment, insight, and reorientation—in an overall effort to understand the client’s past and to achieve their present-day humanistic goals.

Is Adlerian therapy humanistic?

Yes, Adlerian psychology is humanistic; it focuses on the whole person, emphasizes their strengths rather than just their symptoms, and centers them in determining how they can grow and flourish. This school of thought informed the work of Abraham Maslow, who went on to develop humanistic psychology.

How long does Adlerian therapy take?

Adlerian therapy is a short-term, goal-oriented form of therapy that takes around 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Of course, some people may be in therapy for a shorter or longer time frame; length depends on the individual and the problem or condition they wish to treat. Clients can ask their therapist about the timeline for treatment before they begin and check in periodically to ensure that they’re on the same page in terms of progress.

Is Adlerian therapy evidence based?

There is not as much evidence to support the effectiveness of Adlerian therapy as there is for other types of therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. But Adlerian therapy may be the right therapy for some people—whether they’re seeking to treat mental disorders or achieve self-growth—especially those looking for a holistic approach that emphasizes relationships, community, self-worth, and purpose.
