I utilize EFT, brain spotting and working with the inner resource of unconscious mind, imagination and creativity, (which requires no art experience, only a willingness and a beginners mind).
Grieving, anxious, depressed, seeking clarity, lacking confidence? Its time to clear negative beliefs, patterns, & traumas that bind you. I organically weave brain spotting, EFT, meditation, guided imagery, expressive arts therapy, sand tray and neuro-feedback into my therapy sessions. These tools speed up the process of clarity, growth, healing and progress towards your goals. If you are looking for a unique personalized approach, come work with me. I am a licensed professional counselor and certified expressive arts therapist. Our challenges are portals of opportunity for clarity, personal alignment, growth, and healing.

In addition to counseling, I enjoy teaching. In counseling I have the opportunity to teach my clients new skills to better their mental health. I believe that it is easier for individuals to learn about new information if it is presented in conjunction with something they already know. In line with this, I enjoy using pop culture in my therapy process. I have a blog focused on self-care using coping skills in conjunction with popular culture. Therapypopculture.com

Dr. Klenck holds specialized training in evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, exposure therapy, and mindfulness-based practices for the treatment of anxiety, depression, bipolar and related disorders and a wide range of other difficulties. Dr. Klenck focuses on evidence-based treatment and evidence-based assessment practices, but finds the most important factor in therapy is the therapeutic relationship. Without a strong alliance with the client, she finds a therapist is limited in their ability to help the individual effect change.

Welcome! I am down to earth, approachable, funny and provide a warm and supportive environment for growth and transformation. I work with adults and adolescents to help them reach their most authentic selves. I utilize a relational, holistic and attachment based approach that looks at the entire individual emotionally, mentally and physically. I believe that our suffering comes from a disconnection from the Self. Eating disorders, obsessive behaviors, anxiety over working, over scrolling all come down to a fear of sitting with our own emotions.

I have over 24 years experience in private practice. I have also been a counselor educator for 19 years teaching at the graduate level and providing practicum and internship supervision for students entering the counseling field. I believe the counseling process is all about change, that is, changing current behaviors, thinking patterns, or feelings. Counseling will allow you opportunities to explore areas of concern, while challenging you to think and/or behave in new ways pertaining to the issues in your life. I believe this can be achieved through a balance of guidance, encouragement, support, and feedback.

Are you standing in the face of uncertainty in your life or career and confused as to how to move forward? Does performance paralysis settle in when considering a risk? Having lived through Hurricane Katrina, resulting in an abrupt relocation to St. Louis in 2008 (after forty years in Louisiana), I can relate to life being out of balance, starting over, and the need for grounding. After fourteen years in St. Louis, I've recently chosen to relocate to Houston to be near family and have expanded my virtual practice to several states. Life is about transition, investing in a balanced life, so that we can draw from each area as needed.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
