I find it particularly rewarding to create a space where those who feel unheard can truly find their voice. Connection, authenticity, and vulnerability are foundational in the way I relate to clients. Hello, I am Steven Gifford, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the State of Ohio. I believe that we can work together so that you can function at your highest level possible. I have many years of experience working with clients who have experienced depression, anxiety, addiction and alcoholism issues, relationship issues, and couples counseling. I believe that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help us to look at how to change behaviors to improve your life situation. I also believe that talk therapy is also a significant way to get to the results that you deserve.

None of us are perfect...we are human beings affected by the winds of the world and the people that we come into contact with, if only for a moment. As well as those decisions we make...the bad ones and the good ones. As a therapist I will do the best I can to encourage you the Client to be mindful of the process of change. And it is a process!

Say you found yourself at a fork in the road. Life is full of forked paths and these choices can sometimes dictate the route our life takes, who we become, and the people we meet along the way. We can also leave behind parts of ourselves because those parts may be too heavy to carry or too vulnerable for us to take with us. We might even wonder if we picked the correct path in our relationships or career.

As a Marriage & Family therapist, I'm attuned to clients’ interconnected webs of relationships even when working 1-on-1. My experience & training with families & couples enables me to walk with clients through (re)discovering their connectedness to those they love. I’m most passionate about exploring clients’ stories & listening for places where personal narratives might differ from others’. This often provides spaces for clients to explore new or neglected understandings of themselves & their relationships leading to preferred, more fulfilling future stories. In complex trauma things were never okay and just continued to get worse. The subtle feeling that something is not right escalates into a bulldozer of concerning or scary symptoms. You may struggle with feelings of numbness, disconnection, and emptiness. Or you may feel everything too loudly and all at once. Your best attempt at survival might be compulsive behaviors or substance use. And you might have done things that you regret. Life has not been easy for you, and now you want to stop the cycle.

I believe the key to successful therapy is meeting clients where they are at in life and acknowledging and accepting that change takes work and courage, especially when we are working on bettering ourselves. There is something profound when one can take a step back and realize how they would like to change in order to live a fulfilling and happy life.
