I love words and believe that healing is often found when we have space to tell our stories—to make sense of what we have lived, of who we are, and of where we hope to go. I specialize in walking with people who have experienced trauma and struggle to understand how to hold that trauma as a part of their story. I work well with clients who have experienced structural violence, including but not limited to sexual violence, relational violence, religious trauma, homophobia, fatphobia, racism, medical trauma, & complex trauma. I also work well with high achievers, college students, artists, writers, performers, thinkers, & creatives.

When I first meet with individuals, they are often struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, and self esteem. Sometimes this is related to addiction, eating disorders, or trauma & PTSD. No question about it - every therapeutic journey is unique and deserves a response tailored to the needs of the person. Through a genuine and healing connection, let's work together to integrate your past experiences, find meaning in the present, and explore the distant futures and worlds you've only dreamed of.

Finding someone who makes you feel understood is often challenging even in a therapeutic setting. I work collaboratively with clients, and emphasize an empathic client-therapist relationship. I have a very simple approach to therapy which is to understand your dreams, together set goals with you to achieve those dreams, and to teach you coping skills to manage the difficult challenges you are facing.

I serve people seeking to grow. At any stage, frustration or pain typically signals this growth, and many of us have been hurt. Often in psychotherapy, growth involves vulnerability, learning and healing. As a humanist, with an experiential approach, I offer nurturing, integrative psychotherapy to adults. Personality, relationship, mood, and body are special areas of experience and interest. Though this process takes many directions, I enjoy joining my clients' exploration inward, accompanying them in insight. I am excited by their discovery, reclaiming, and application of self to live in an authentically meaningful, harmonious way.

If you live long enough, you’re going to experience problems. It’s not if, but when. It’s okay to get help when life gets overwhelming. Mental health problems can range from mild to severe. I believe that each client is unique and I take time to evaluate a person as an individual. I bring to therapy an essential aspect – the art of caring. It was ingrained in me when I was young, “No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.” Are you tired of suffering in silence? Do you have a story to tell, but no one to tell it to? Do you often feel unstable, but don't know what to do about it? Please reach out today.

“I don’t feel seen.” “Opening up is scary.” “I feel stuck, and I don’t know what to do.” So many of us have had experiences—like relationship issues, anxiety, low self-esteem, and past trauma—that leave us feeling just like those quotes: alone and confused. As a therapist, I’m passionate about helping clients like you feel seen, heard, and supported as you get clear on what’s holding you back and learn new ways to move forward.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist, I studied at Cameron University and received a master's in behavioral science in psychology, and a BA in communications from Georgia Southern University. I have been counseling clients since 2011. Prior to becoming a therapist I was an active duty soldier in the United States Army. The army provided exposure to many cultures and adversity. I departed from the army and became involved in military programs while supporting my active duty husband in his service. I was an advocate for the unit's family readiness group which led me to pursue a career in psychology.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
