I can help you find the skills/strategies that will best help you with whatever is going on in your life - stress, anxiety, depression, grief, boundaries, codependency, OCD, trauma .
Stressed out? Overwhelmed? Wondering how to find your way back to a life you enjoy living instead of just going through the motions? As adult women we tend to take on too much and put everyone and everything before ourselves. We often feel depleted and want life to be different, but we keep doing the same thing. As a college student, stress and unhealthy relationships become your norm. As a teenager, insecurities, stress, and social media put you on a path filled with anxiety, depression, and self doubt. I'd like to help you get back on track, find some inner peace amidst all the chaos, and have fun along the way.

I know that for many people the hardest part of therapy is picking up the phone to ask for help, I want to thank you for taking that first step. Choosing the right person to help is a very individual process, and time after time the best predictor of successful counseling or therapy has been shown to be the quality of the relationship between the therapist and the client. If you feel confident that my training, approach to therapy, and personality are the right match for you, we will discuss our options regarding treatment.

My goal is to provide you with a safe place to work through and eventually overcome the difficulties, large or small, you are currently experiencing. You will never hear me say "I know exactly how you feel," or many other 'classic' therapists' lines. The fact is, anyone who tells you this is not being totally honest. However, this realization is what leads to what I believe is one of the most beneficial aspects of our therapeutic journey; teaching you to help yourself.

I believe each client is unique and different and should be exposed to a powerful individual experience in the therapeutic process. Every client possesses strengths and abilities and as a therapist I assist them in identifying and implementing their strengths and abilities to help transcend positive healthy balance and change within in lives. As a LPCS that specializes in substance abuse, dual diagnosis, and depression. I utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to teach individuals how to recognize moods, thoughts, and situations that stimulate unwanted emotions.

I believe it is never to late to be who you want to be. Change isn't always easy, but it can be necessary if we feel as though we aren't living fully, as life was intended. I strive to build an authentic, trusting, and connected therapeutic relationship as we work toward your goals. I encourage clients to adopt an attitude of openness and curiosity toward their experience with the aim of helping to develop greater self-compassion and self-acceptance. Both of which are important for emotional health and life satisfaction.

Experience/focus: adults, college age, teens (14 and up). Life can be difficult. The people we love may let us down, we may be struck with loss, our emotions overwhelm us and we don't understand. I am an LPC with Master’s level experience working with adolescents, adults and their families. I have worked with clients with relationship and family issues, PTSD, ODD, anxiety, depressive disorders and other mental health issues. I have extensive experience with college students especially coping with relationships and anxiety.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
