People access therapy for many different reasons, but generally we are most likely to reach out for help when our usual coping strategies are no longer effective. At these times it is not always helpful or possible to turn to family or friends, and their well-meaning support may not always help. I will provide a calm and confidential space where you will be able to safely share what is troubling you.

I help people to overcome their past, so that they can embrace their future. So often, the things we are struggling with in life, can be linked back to our early life experiences or difficult life events, which can have a huge impact on how we feel about ourselves, our relationships with others and our overall well being. My goal is to help my clients understand and make sense of their past experiences and explore how their current difficulties may fit into this. I help them to learn new skills and break old patterns so that they can reclaim the life that they want.

Newid pronounced "Nowed" is Welsh for change. I chose this name not only to reflect my heritage but also to reflect that change is the only constant in life. We all travel with it, yet all our experiences can be profoundly different. I believe that counselling is a collaborative process in which we work together on what you want to change or explore in a safe non-judgemental environment. I offer an integrative approach where we work side-by-side to understand your past and help you discover new ways of coping and moving forward. I recognise that courage is not fearless and making the 1st step can be challenging in it's self.

I work relationally, believing that the relationship between client and therapist can heal relational wounds and help create healthier future relationships, including the relationship with the self.
Hi, my name is Sal. I work with people with a wide range of issues. Many people come to therapy because they are having a difficult time and want someone to listen to them, others want help in finding reasons why they are feeling this way. Sometimes people have more complex issues and need someone skilled and experienced to help them manage and work through them.

As an integrative therapist, I am relational in my approach, this style places great emphasis on the relationship between the client and the therapist. I believe the most important part of any therapy is to build a trusting relationship, where you can feel safe and secure so you feel able to share your story and experiences in a confidential, non-judgmental space where you can explore positive and challenging aspects of your life and any change you wish to explore or make. I have personal experience in sexual, physical, emotional and mental abuse; divorce; living with a narcissist; step-parenting; addiction and PTSD.

I practice from a relational perspective, striving to create a safe, comfortable, non-judgemental rapport.
I have a wealth of experience and success in working with many life issues such as anxiety, bereavement, grief, loss, depression, family issues, relationships and trauma. Plus, for many years, I've supported people in the work environment, understanding how tough processes such as redundancy, investigations etc, can be. There are many reasons why people come to me for counselling. Do you feel confused, or overwhelmed, exhausted by worry? Perhaps you feel misunderstood, unheard, or fear telling others? Maybe you know what the issue is but can't see your way through.

In this warm and accepting relational style, we will work together to uncover and challenge any unhelpful thoughts and beliefs you may have, so you can start feeling better and moving towards your goals.
You are exploring therapy. It may not feel like it, but that desire for things to improve is itself the first stage of therapy. You have already started. I want to join you on this climb you have already set out on. I am a BACP-qualified Psychotherapist with an MA (Distinctions) in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I aim to address the underlying issues at the source of your challenges. This holistic approach to therapy means that instead of just putting a plaster on the symptoms, I equip you with the tools to recognise and challenge your issues. Together, we will strengthen your healthy emotional/mental core.

I have over 10 years’ experience working with people with psychological difficulties ranging from depressive and anxiety disorders to more long-standing, chronic issue such as low self-esteem and relational difficulties.
Being challenged is an inevitable part of life and everyone may experience difficult moments at times in day-to-day life. Our natural reactions to life challenges may involve experiencing unpleasant emotions such as anxiety, low mood, shame, humiliation, and guilt. These reactions, however, may become “sticky” and you may feel unable to get rid of them. This can significantly and negatively affect your personal and professional life. My therapy offers a safe space and an opportunity for you to go through and develop a new understanding about your unprocessed emotions that would help you begin formulating a new way forward.

I am trained in Relational Psychotherapy and can help address recurring conflict that may involve feelings of emotional disconnectedness; issues surrounding intimacy, sex, communication, affairs, and family issues; fertility, or even external circumstances that have triggered issues that need to be worked through.
I am an experienced counsellor of more than 10 years, providing counselling for couples and individuals in York. I offer a warm and open environment to explore, together, some of the difficulties or experiences that may have brought you to counselling. Couples counselling need not be a sign of breaking up. Instead, Couples Counselling provides a safe, neutral space for those who are struggling in their relationship, or wish to address a range of relationship issues. It has the potential to resolve past hurt and present conflict. Attending sessions together can initiate a more productive way of communicating.

As a Relational therapist, I place particular attention in developing a trusting, safe and collaborative relationship to develop self-awareness.
People start therapy for many different reasons. You may feel dissatisfied or distressed, want to explore the past, process difficult life events or relationships, achieve new goals or just learn more about yourself.

I’m an Integrative Relational Psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience. The essence of my practice is 'person-centred' in that I am always led by the client's needs as presented to me. In this way 'therapy' is always grounded in the trans-formative power of trusting and collaborative relationships. Our work together should then stand as an open invitation to go beyond our sense of limitation and to help establish a greater sense of well-being, meaningful identity and purpose.

Working with relational issues is at the heart of my work. Healthy relationships and connection are the key to fulfilment, motivation and wellbeing. I offer my clients a pathway to notice patterns of how they relate to their world and build understanding around their behaviours. This naturally leads to awareness which in turn will create choice, empowerment and positive change. I have specialised working with teenagers and young people both face to face and online. Creating safety and trust within the therapeutic relationship is fundamental, from this place grows confidence, kindness to self and others, direction and resilience.

I've healed those relational wounds and have trained in a Relational approach to Integrative Psychotherapy.
Do you feel different than other people, like nobody seems to understand you? Do you often feel like an outsider? Perhaps you have trouble standing up for yourself or speaking your truth. Do you tend to cater to other people's needs and don’t get what you need? Do people sometimes tell you that you're a loving and giving person, but you feel flawed and unlovable? Do you feel uncomfortable in social situations, fearing that people will reject you if you stand out? Do you feel depressed? Do you often feel anxious? Perhaps you often don’t know what you need or want. Are you very hard on yourself and have lots of self-critical thoughts?

I work using an Integrative approach, which draws on a number of theories and primarily work from a relational perspective.
I offer a Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy Service. If you are searching for a Therapist then it is likely that you are feeling some kind of emotional distress, dissatisfaction, emptiness or a lack of purpose. From time to time virtually everyone will experience life events that cause significant distress. These events maybe recent or may have occurred many years ago. Counselling and Psychotherapy are not only helpful for big traumatic life events but can also be beneficial when you are feeling ‘stuck’ or at a ‘cross roads’ point in your life.

Instead of using a one-size-fits-all way of working, I work in a Humanistic, Relational and Integrative way, meaning I customise my support for each individual based on their needs.
Hi there, I’m Carolyne, a qualified and experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I currently have availability for new clients interested in virtual/online sessions (delivered via Google Meet or Zoom). Would you like to work on your personal growth, so that you can show up as your authentic self? Would you like to dig deeper and understand what makes it hard for you to say no, even when saying yes is not in your best interest? Would you like to cultivate healthy relationships (romantic, family, friendships)? If your answer is yes, to any of the above questions then you're in the right place.

I'm an integrative relational psychotherapist and I use my experience of talking and relating to you in sessions to understand your way of being in the world, how you make sense of it and how you relate to others. Your journey is unique. Every time I've been listened to and understood I've come away feeling cared for and valued with a new sense of worth. I've learned that change is inevitable and that how I care for myself in the present affects my future.

Relational Counsellors

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioural therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
