Transactional Analysis offers a framework in understanding patterns of behaviour and how you communicate with others and yourself.
Hi I’m Sarah, a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I run a quiet private practice from Launton with free parking, where I provide confidential in-person counselling to adults. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my practice as I believe this is what enables us to heal. As my client, you are my priority and I strive to offer a therapeutic relationship where there is mutual trust, you feel heard, understood and valued, as a whole unique person. I understand how daunting deciding to see a counsellor can be. Often it’s the first difficult step, especially if you have never experienced counselling before.

When life gets so difficult that it is affecting our day-to-day living, it's perhaps the time to seek professional help. Whether we're suffering from anxiety, depression, low self esteem, loss or grief, or feeling that we've lost all direction in our life and can't cope, they all can really affect us. Sometimes we can't function the way we would like to. This will get in the way or make it seem impossible for us to reach our life aims and goals. Counselling can help you, as issues are easier dealt with, by talking through them and understanding them, and having an outlet.

Maybe you haven’t been feeling quite yourself lately or a significant life event has left you reeling, or you just can’t quite put your finger on it, but you know something is off. It can feel really overwhelming, scary, heavy and lonely when this happens. The thought of reaching out for help can feel very daunting and I really appreciate how hard it can be to send that first email or make that call. I will do my best to put you at ease and provide a safe empathic space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment and be fully accepted just as you are. All emotions are welcome tears, laughter and swearing.

I offer a calm, confidential and non-judgmental space in which to talk over whatever's troubling you, either as an individual (£60) or as a couple (£75). I am also a clinical supervisor (£60). Sometimes, people think their problems aren't big enough to warrant counselling, or are too big for someone else to cope with, but if there’s something that’s getting in the way of you leading your life the way you want, we can look at that together. Or there may be one particular event in your life which is affecting you which we can explore so you get a good understanding of how it affects you, and the changes you might like to make.

It is my belief that we all have very unique and individual reasons and circumstances surrounding our issues and that taking the step to share them with someone else can be intimidating. Which is why I am open to working in a non-judgemental way, with anyone who feels they want to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe and nurturing environment. I offer face to face or online video counselling via Zoom because I realise that not everyone wants to be in the same room as their therapist or are able to travel.

Sometimes feelings can be overwhelming to hold alone and you might want to share this with someone who is trained to listen, who offers a safe and nurturing space. Changes in your life may have created a loss of the person you once were. Perhaps you feel that you lack purpose and you would like more meaning in your life. You may have conflicting feelings, or what once seemed to make sense may have become confusing. Situations may be familiar, yet uncomfortable and you may be wondering why you can’t move forward.

Choosing a counsellor is a daunting task. Most of us use the same language to describe what we do and how we do it, making it even harder to decide. I have been there, and I learnt that choosing a few counsellors to have an initial meeting with, is a good place to start. This way, you get a flavour of how your work with that person will look like. I invite you to book a free exploratory session with me and decide afterwards if we are a good fit.

Sometimes life presents us with challenges. It may feel like something is holding you back, or perhaps you can’t feel yourself really living. You may have developed coping mechanisms that are negatively impacting your life. It may be that there are parts of you that feel disconnected, numb or shut down whilst you function through your daily life. Talking can be hard to do, even with those around you. I work in a relational way, working alongside clients using symbol/metaphor and imagery to gently identify experiences that words are difficult to define. I help with stress, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and much more.

The key to any successful therapy is to build a trusting relationship between a therapist and a client. I am here to listen and to help you explore your thoughts and feelings, which can sometimes feel confusing and overwhelming. I offer a secure, non judgemental, professional and confidential environment where we work together to try and make sense of how you are feeling. I have experience of working with a number of different issues and I hope that by building our relationship together, we can gain a better understanding of how you can overcome difficulties and move forward.
