Facing the day with a niggling sense of confusion, unease or sadness will affect everything around you, it limits your ability to engage and really be in the moment. These feelings may be linked to a past event in your life, a situation you are currently in or you may be unclear as to why you feel this way. What is important is that at the centre is you. Often, we know we need to prioritise ourselves better, but maybe we do not know how to, we are unsure what we need and are hesitant to ask for this. Are you eager to find out why you respond the way you do? Why you think the way you do at times?

Therapy requires bravery, vulnerability, and self-love. Sometimes it is the hardest thing you will ever do in your life, but it can be the most rewarding. As a Cognitive behavioural psychotherapist I help people understand how the stories they have created about themselves impact their lives today, and what they can do to create a new story. The overall aim of therapy is to support you to explore your difficulties in a safe space and achieve the goals that you identify. My practice is centred on trust, empathy and empowerment.

Everything starts with a thought - this is what Cognitive Behavioural Therapy bases it's theory on and how I can help you to overcome your current issues. Motivation to change is important in therapy and you have started the process by looking here to see what is on offer. It can be overwhelming - just like your feelings, together we can break it down bit by bit working on issues that are causing you distress and look to alleviate symptoms associated with this. Although my main modality is CBT, I am able to draw on other modalities to support you in the best way that suits your needs.

When we're struggling, we have many urgent needs: to be held and understood, to feel warmth, empathy and compassion, to have guidance, support, safety, wisdom. Sometimes we need help with a specific issue, and at other times we might have a vague feeling that something is wrong but not quite know what, or how to make it better. We might find ourselves in the depths of despair, or feel sort of OK but keep wondering if there's more to life. If you recognise yourself in any of the above then there is a good chance that counselling, which is a combination of science and humanity, would help you. It could even be life-changing.

Psychotherapy is a rare invitation to truth - a place to explore your self and your story, make sense of why you feel the way you do and ask how you might meet life's challenges in a more authentic, meaningful and fulfilling way. My approach is integrative, creative and embodied. It considers who you are and what happened to you, as well as what your heart desires. As a relational therapist, I also put your experience with me in therapy at the heart of our work together.

Sometimes we can feel stuck in life, and find ourselves caught in a cycle of unhelpful behaviour patterns or ways of relating to ourselves and others. We may feel conflicted, anxious sad or depressed but don't know why. We want to understand ourselves better and to be understood by others. We want to achieve inner peace but we don’t know how to, or feel we have the capacity to make changes or achieve lasting healing.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
