A music therapy session might include: Using breathing and singing exercises to relax, using music to explore and support your emotions, talking through your reactions to different sounds, lyrics and songs, creating playlists to use in your everyday life, and much, much more.
Music therapy is an evidence-based approach to wellness rooted in hundreds of years of human knowledge and tradition. It can help you to change your perspective, clarify your emotions, and relax your body and mind. You don't need musical training to benefit from music therapy; all you need is a willingness to explore the potential of music to support the changes you're looking to create in your life.

I also provide music therapy, which can support verbal therapy.
I find therapy can be a branch that reaches in, something strong you use to pull yourself from a harsh inner world to more solid ground. If you feel overwhelmed or raw, what you're experiencing isn't a problem with who you are. Plenty is hard in this world. Add in factors like your history, systemic barriers, learned habits, vulnerabilities, traumas, or feelings that overwhelm your capacities right now - it can be exhausting. At best. The hopeful news is that you can change your experience: gain understanding and strength, interrupt patterns, create your solid ground, and move in a direction that's in line with what matters to you.

Music therapy is great for those finding it difficult to put feelings into words.
How to find hope? If you are feeling overwhelmed, engaging in therapy can help you feel calm again. Are you and/or your child having struggling, having difficulty regulating emotions? Perhaps you are worried about how your child is coping with changes. In parenting, there are many challenges involved in guiding little people towards becoming adults and life can force families to face events that impact children's ability to function successfully within their daily environments.

Hot take: Everyone can benefit from therapy. I spent years of my life wanting to hide my feelings from the people around me because of the stigma surrounding mental health—particularly as a second-generation Chinese Canadian woman. Once I began to accept these feelings and embrace them as part of the human experience, I was able to embark on a (life-long) journey of healing. When I discovered firsthand how transformative therapy can be, I realized I wanted to work with other individuals in assisting them with their journeys.

“I can’t keep living this way, but I don’t know how to change.” Does this statement sound familiar to you? Once upon a time, I felt this way too. Therapy was my safe space to land, and now I hope to offer a safe space in return for the pre-teens, teens and adults I work with. My own personal experience with navigating mental health concerns gives me a unique ability to understand my client’s journey, and with this insight and perspective I can promise you that you will never feel judged in my room. Together, we will work to unpack your past experiences, explore your strengths, and make a plan for the life you hope to build.

I use a blend of EMDR, somatic therapy, ego state therapy, IFS and music therapy to target anxiety, depression and trauma responses.
Are you feeling chained to the past and locked into “autopilot” mode? Are relationships leaving you wonder about belonging or being good enough? Trauma leaves an undeniable trail of distrust and fear in our mind and our bodies. Trauma is what went wrong and what was never given. Its imprints shape our stress response, emotional thresholds and how we relate to others. So, what if you could quiet your survival brain and take back control of your life? Therapy is about becoming the architect of your life and the master of your mind and body. It’s time to take charge and shape the new you.

Music Therapy Counsellors
How does music therapy work?
A music therapist will begin by assessing the client’s specific needs and getting a sense of their musical ability and interests. Musical training is not required, and clients of all ages can benefit from this type of therapy. The therapist will then make a plan for how to achieve the client’s therapeutic goal(s) using a range of receptive (e.g., listening to a song) and active (e.g., drumming in a group) music therapy techniques.
What are some common music therapy techniques?
Music therapy usually involves listening to music (either live or recorded). Music therapy clients may also make music on popular instruments, such as the piano, guitar, and hand drum, or sing. Sometimes music therapy can include guided imagery. A music therapist may ask clients to improvise on the spot or even compose their own songs. Dancing or moving to music can be an effective intervention to help clients feel more fully grounded in their bodies and remain in the present moment.
How does music therapy help with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?
Music therapy can be a valuable creative outlet for clients with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who have trouble putting their painful feelings into words. Listening to music can be relaxing while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. In addition to its mood-boosting effects, music therapy can help clients build resilience and overcome PTSD symptoms that may interfere with their daily lives.
How long does music therapy take?
Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes. They can be scheduled in advance (for example, once a week) or can be done on an as-needed basis. Some clients will only require a handful of music therapy sessions to achieve their goals, while others may need months or longer, depending on their specific concern.
