Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, challenging relationships, loss of a sense of self or past trauma that affects your day-to-day life, relationships, ability to function, or your work? Maybe you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, frustrated, lost, living up to someone else’s standards, just getting through the day, or having the thought that there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Do you wish that these aspects could be better but don’t know where to start? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and disconnected about their struggles.

At The Sacred Self Wellness Collective, we understand that making the decision to seek mental health support can come with a sense of fear and uncertainty. The notion of opening up to a stranger can seem intimidating, and can go against all the ways you’ve learned to protect yourself in the world. We understand. Should you choose to work with us, know that you will be openly embraced and accepted for exactly who you are, and exactly where you are in your process of healing. Your practitioner will work with you at a pace that feels comfortable and safe for you, with no pressure or judgment. Ever.

I am not your expert - you are.  I am willing to co-create with you an atmosphere in which meaningful conversations can take place with a hope that we explore at least three things together: We can recapture some of your skills of living and knowledges of life and try to apply them to your present life circumstances. Part of the process is pure creation. I don’t not know what we may end up talking about. We have never met before. The very fact gives a chance to create ideas neither of us would be able to come up with on our own. Also I am willing to share with you my ideas coming from my both professional and personal experiences.

We all struggle in invisible ways as our lives become inhibited by pressures and expectations of the day to day. We are often further debilitated by our less than perfect past, where old hurts and abandon influence our current choices. Most impacted are our relationships, our work, and our connection to the self. I believe therapy gives us the opportunity to both accept what was and is, and through growth orienting processes help us recreate ourselves into versions that feel more aligned with who we would like to become.

If you are looking to create a deeper understanding of yourself, I would like to invite you into exploring psychotherapy. I work with youth and adults who are interested in becoming more of ‘their authentic self’, want to deepen their social-emotional-spiritual connection, and release any hurts, burdens, pains they have had to carry throughout their childhood and adolescence. If you are looking for ways to support your own well-being, manage stress and better understand your emotions/reactions, IFS can create that space for you to experience more harmony, clarity and direction.

Domestic Abuse Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
