Real recovery from psychosis is possible. Are you looking for an understanding of unusual experience that promotes healing? Do you want to recover agency and direction in your life? Dialogic practice aims to listen carefully, accepting and exploring differences, so people with alternate views are truly heard and taken seriously. We don’t view negative feelings as a disorder, but as essential guideposts to greater understanding. I agree with Dan Fisher, MD, PhD, a psychiatrist recovered from ‘schizophrenia’, who says medications alone may buy you time, but they rarely solve your problems - you do.

Most of us know that even the healthiest of us need at some point in our lives an outside perspective or guidance into our inner selves to resolve many issues that we have not been able to do on our own. Therapy can take many forms from "personal growth work " (i.e. becoming a better person or reaching personal goals not yet achieved) or in dealing with life crises, wrong choices in the past effecting today, life transitions or mood problems such as depression, grief, anxiety etc. am also helping people deal with covid and all of it's implications.

Hello! I wanted to use this space to share a little about my approach to therapy to see if we'd be a good fit for each other. My approach revolves around you, the client. I believe that you are the expert of your story, your experiences, your struggles, and your goals for therapy. I will meet you where you are and provide warmth, acceptance, and empathy. I enjoy building modalities and interventions based on your needs and interests and finding what works best for you. Recognizing that as this all can be a challenging and hard thing to do, I want to create a safe and validating place for you so we can tackle what needs tackling.

Reaching out for help is hard, especially in our most vulnerable moments, so I work hard to make therapy a comfortable, approachable, and worthwhile experience for my clients. I work with clients experiencing issues like depression, anxiety, and self-esteem issues, trauma, and much more. For those experiencing trauma, I'm a trained EMDR therapist with experience helping individuals heal from the negative beliefs that they’ve taken on, and the traumatic experiences they’ve had in life. Whatever you may be going through, I'm honored to join you on a journey of healing.

Harvard Avenue Counseling Services mission is to provide high end virtual and in person counseling services. Counseling should not be a manufactured service provided by a corporation that sees clients and counselors as numbers to provide profits to shareholders. Harvard Avenue Counseling Services is a small scale high end counseling practice. Our clients and counselors are our main focus and not just a number. I decided to open Harvard Avenue Counseling Services because I saw a huge need for a high quality counseling service that was able to provide attentive personalized care.

Our treatment services are based on the needs of the individual and the family.
We're unable to take new clients at this time, but we are working diligently to hire new clinicians to better serve you and the community. Based on the Ghanaian Twi language word “Sankofa,” which means “to go back and get what was taken,” our practice focuses on assisting our clients in understanding and accepting past hardships that have prevented them from reaching their true potential. We aim to assist individuals and families in excelling within the home, community, and at play.

I am excited to partner with you in this phase of your journey. My goal as your therapist is to walk alongside you as you discover your own voice, passions and healing. I believe you have everything you need within you to cope. Through an eclectic approach of attachment theory, CBT, transpersonal theory, internal family systems and mindfulness practices, we will explore the experiences that led you to therapy. There are many reasons to seek therapy- unfulfilling relationships, trouble with self-image, difficult family dynamics, life transitions, traumatic experiences or loss, and all can be explored in a supported setting.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
