I am a Licensed Psychologist and the Clinical Director of Sollars and Associates Integrative Counseling and Psychological Services. I have been providing counseling and psychotherapy for over 30 years in the Metro Detroit area and our group practice spans across the state of Michigan. Having experience in two sides of the counseling field thus far, my history includes working in a jail and substance use rehab with addiction struggles, heightened mental health diagnoses, and high-severity felony offenders, as well as alternatively having experience in education and foster settings with Pre-K through 12th grade school-age children and adolescents. Additionally, my focus is on working with LGBTQ+ individuals and families. This is to say, I work to ensure a judgment-free environment, and the achievement of success for a client as they define it.

I am most qualified to treat people who are having problems in living fulfilling lives because of troubling symptoms (e.g., anxiety, depression) or general dissatisfaction with themselves and relationships. I believe my treatment approach contributes to personal growth at any age. My rigorous training, 10 years post-Ph.D. has qualified me as a Training/Supervising Analyst who treats other therapists, and supervises other therapists--psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers in their work with adults, children and adolescents. As a Certified Sex Therapist, I treat sexual and marital dysfunctions. As a child psychoanalyst, I treat children and work with parents in parent guidance.

I have extensive training in contemporary psychoanalytic approaches, which allows me to help patients understand themselves more deeply; often this produces profound changes. But when problems require practical techniques, I integrate aspects of cognitive-behavioral, family systems, and humanistic approaches.

In beginning a therapy, I first try to create an environment that is non-judgmental and accepting. Comfort and trust are indispensable for developing a strong working relationship in psychotherapy. During the course of therapy, I try to help identify and explore problem areas at face value at the time they are presented. I also stay attuned to dimensions of personal struggles that are not readily apparent.

The individuals, couples, and families with whom I work are interested in understanding and addressing not only certain specific emergent problems such as those associated with adjustment and relationship difficulties, depression, and anxiety, but also the underlying thoughts, feelings, and behavioral and relational patterns that have contributed to the development of these problems. Through a collaborative, empathic, psychotherapeutic process, these individuals, couples, and families expand and utilize their skills, strengths, and self-understanding in order to live more meaningful and rewarding lives.
