These may stem from early childhood or family of origin issues, abuse, traumatic events, or losses in your life.
Let's face it, life is hard. It is draining juggling school, career, relationships, family, pets, etc. You get so caught up in the day to day that you've put the health of your mind, body, and spirit on the backburner. You may be here because you are struggling to get over past hurts that you've never told a soul. You want better relationships but don't know how. Maybe you are able to treat others with extraordinary kindness but have difficulty thinking nice things about yourself. Perhaps, what feels like loss after loss has you feeling numb and detached and has left you struggling to know who you are and how to move forward.

I prioritize implementing parental guidance and family therapy to help not just my client to thrive, but for the family to evolve together.
Is your child neurodivergent and having a difficult time adapting to the world around him/her? Does your child become easily overwhelmed, overstimulated, or become frequently dysregulated, leading to emotional outbursts? With such a high demand for children and teenagers in schools and the presence of social media, neurodivergents are more often getting left behind.

Sometimes we love it, sometimes, not so much. but the one thing we do know for sure, is that change will happen. Like it or not. "Liz is a national treasure!" "When your life is black and white, Liz will give you color!" Reviews from clients after learning how to view their world differently. Let's get you through those changes.

Sometimes the experiences of life can make us feel as if we need quick and fast solutions in order to be ‘cured’ or ‘normal’. Can I tell you something? You are not a problem that needs to be fixed. You are a human, with human emotions and unique human experiences. Instead of trying to fix you, I want to listen. I want to know you, hear your story, and walk with you towards living the life that you deserve! I specialize in working with children, teens, and adults, seeking individual or family therapy. I work with clients facing a wide variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and more!

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
