In the context of mental health, an ideal client is someone who actively engages in the therapeutic process, is open to self-reflection, and is committed to making positive changes in their life. However, It's important to note that everyone is unique, and the ideal client can vary based on the specific therapeutic approach, the individual therapist's style, and the client's specific needs and goals. Our focus is on matching clients with the right therapist to maximize the effectiveness of treatment. It ensures that clients receive personalized and tailored support that aligns with their needs and preferences.

If you are reading this you are likely suffering for yourself or another, perhaps both. I want you to know that my goal as a therapist is to help you become your own healer, for you to continue living your meaningful life in a manner that is true to you, and to develop the means to deal with future hardships long after our work together is done. This process can be a difficult journey, but one I look forward to taking with you.

When people experience trauma, chronic life stressors, and /or destructive relationship patterns, life can quickly become overwhelming and unmanageable. My passion is to bring healing to people who have endured great hardship and restore wholeness and joy to their lives. I help adults, families, teens, and children navigate troubled times, & find healthy perceptions of themselves. I view all difficulties systemically and works to shift both individual and relational patterns to provide comprehensive, long-lasting results. I understand that one size does not fit all and can tailor the treatment plan to fit each client's unique needs.

Areas of treatment competency: anxiety, depression, parenting support, surviving childhood sexual abuse/assault, surviving adult domestic violence and/or abuse, alcohol/ drug abuse and addiction/family support, co-dependency, mood disorder, impulse-control, post-partum issues and PTSD.
During my clinical experience as a therapist I have had the opportunity to work with many different populations of people, often walking alongside them while experiencing a range of life circumstances. People experiencing the lowest of lows while others having found peace in forgiveness of the past. One of the most impressive characteristics that many of the brave people I have met share is that of perseverance. My desire is to encourage perseverance in the face of difficulty which fosters wisdom and maturity within our therapeutic relationship, while gathering new and more sustainable coping skills for continued stability.

You may have become stuck in a relationship where you feel you can’t grow, or a relationship you would like to salvage, or you just want out. Your relationship does not have to involve a person, you can have a relationship with gambling, alcohol abuse, diabetes distress, or stress. You want to challenge whatever relationship you have that impacts your life outside of your vision for your life.

Are you finding it difficult to create growth in your life? Are you looking to connect with your feelings and overcome your past struggles? In therapy, we will work together to explore what is going wrong and where we can find new life. I believe there is no problem too big or strange for therapy and that growth is always possible no matter what life stage you are at. Some of the main issues I tend to work with are: Depression, Anxiety, Family Relationships, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Trauma.

I currently have a telehealth opening at 12:40 p.m. on Wednesdays. "It's all in your head." "Why can't you just stop?" "Just do something different." Sometimes the people in your life just don't know what to say or how to help you. You feel hurt, you struggle, you feel stuck, and you don't know how to feel better or get yourself out of that rut. Don't give up; NOW is the time to reach out. I will help you learn the tools to feel better and empower yourself to make positive changes in your life.

Call today and be seen within 7 DAYS. I have always wanted to help others to be their personal best. I enjoy guiding people to see their true potential. I graduated from Wayne State University and received a Masters in Community Counseling and Art Therapy Degree in 2009. Later, I went on to obtain my certification in alcohol and drug counseling (CADC), became a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and also supervise "new to the field" therapists who are seeking their Limited License Counseling credentials (LLC).

As a psychotherapist I have worked with students of all ages, grades 6-12 for quite some time and I have broadened my horizons to provide support to adults who seek change and stability in their lives. My only goal is to provide my clients a safe haven, a place where they can feel comfortable enough to disclose their personal issues. Therapy is a place where my clients can trust me enough to provide them with the courage, guidance, and support they need to begin to learn how to battle their struggles with ease.

I am a mental health clinician who practices in both Maryland and Michigan. Treatment will vary just as our individual personalities vary. I am looking for clients who are unsure of what they want or need but are willing to explore. I am looking for clients who have goals but need help starting the journey. I am also looking for clients who know what they want, they have begun the work, but need more support. No matter the stage or phase of treatment, I am looking for clients willing to do the work.

Congratulations! Just by thinking about making a change in your life, your journey to living a fully empowered and authentic life has already begun. I view therapy as a process by which I facilitate my clients in exploration, clarification, and identification of their needs and help them to make changes in behaviors and cognitions. It is a safe place to explore reactions, thoughts, and feelings about people in your life as well as yourself. With enhanced self-understanding and acceptance, you will replace the limiting beliefs you have learned with a self-empowering perspective and transform from surviving to thriving.

Existential dread, or adversity in everyday life antagonizes everyone at some point. Life seems to happen all the time, then, when it rains, it pours. Sometimes we suffer more than we triumph, and when we do, its easy to get lost. Seeking safety in our most vulnerable times can appear impossible, but it is not. I offer a safe space and understanding. My ideal client base are people who are seeking solutions, and willing to do the necessary actions to create the changes that they most prefer. When there is a problem, there are always multiple solutions. The goal is to help everyone no matter how complicated the problems/issues are.

James spent ten years providing outpatient services where he observed that mental illness and chemical dependence issues, otherwise known as “co-occurring disorders” were low priority. Agencies seldom have time and resources to focus on one or the other, let alone “both” sides of the mental health and substance dependence matter. James became a social worker to work for change, and this dichotomy was unacceptable. Reliance was born out of this frustration as a possible solution for the those that it is able to serve. Substance use, mental health, or spiritual change are all goals Reliance will seek to facilitate alongside you.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
