You have a story. A very important and unique story. Sometimes your story keeps you stuck. It keeps you from being the best version of yourself. If your story involves trauma whether from sexual abuse, divorce as an adult or child, physical or verbal abuse, loss, relationship conflict, boundary confusion, religious confusion, natural disasters, accidents, etc, I can help you reprocess these memories and the negative things that you tell yourself. It takes a lot of strength to reach out and ask for help however, I will provide you a safe space to do just that.

Many of my clients enter therapy to address the feeling of groundlessness that can occur when things fall apart. It may be an episode of significant depression or anxiety, unresolved trauma, a life changing loss such as divorce or death, or a crisis of awakening and challenging previously held understandings of the self in the world. There are many paths that take us into therapy, and I walk that path with my clients to develop a better understanding and integration to adapt to life when we find ourselves at these challenging points.

I have experienced the joys and pains of life including the adoption journey, addiction in a family member, divorce, and just wondering if I have done life right.
My ideal client is one who is aware that they need to do something different but aren't quite sure what the next step is. This could be a life transition from adolescence to adulthood, or a couple who struggles with communication. It could be more intense like a couple who is in the middle of despair or broken trust, or an individual or child who has experienced something traumatic that has changed their whole world. All these individuals are looking for ways to regain their life and become who they believe themselves to be.

I'm not your typical counselor... You won't find me busy looking at my notes and only paying attention half the time you're talking. My style is very conversational and I'll share about myself any time it's pertinent, or when asked. I don't believe in dragging counseling out because it's expensive so why waste your time and money? You've got a problem so let's get to fixing it! The bottom line is your quality of life: it's not where you want/need it to be, and it's my job to help you improve it. My primary office is in Springfield, MO with a secondary location in Chesterfield, MO a few days a week.

Do you often feel overwhelmed by your feelings? Have you felt discouraged by the impact that your past experiences have on your daily life? Do you struggle to function in your daily roles and relationships due to stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, or overstimulation? You are not alone. You are worth the time it takes to develop an understanding of how life has impacted the connections between your body and mind. We can work together to develop adaptive coping skills that allow you to be fully present in your life.

Finding a space to feel comfortable and be heard is the most important aspect in therapy. My clients range from teens, young adults, and families trying to find peace in a time of chaos and confusion. Mental health is often taken for granted and it is important to learn how to effectively communicate and practice healthy habits to get the best out of your life.

You even checking out this site shows how much strength and bravery you have. Just know that you don’t have to go through things alone. We believe people seek out help when the things they do to deal with life no longer work. A lot of people think counseling is only for those who need “professional help,” but it’s really about talking to someone who is safe and not biased about what you should think or feel. You make think “there must be better out there,” — a better life, a way to feel less stressed, a happier marriage, a job you love… but you are just trying to survive this day.

Life can sometimes be unpredictable. Situations outside of our control occur and can knock us off of our feet. Relationships can be hard and confusing to navigate. A late-in-life diagnosis of Autism can trigger an identity crisis. Whether it be from past familial trauma, current familial issues, work burnout, chronic diagnoses or terminal illness, issues within the relationship, the struggles of parenting (especially special needs children), traumatic birth experiences, or life transitions, I am here to help you navigate through all of this and more.

Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
