My approach is relational and attachment-based.
In my work with individuals and partners, I bring a warm and grounding presence to each relationship. I trust in the innate capacity of each of us to heal and grow; this belief guides my work in supporting folks navigating complex trauma, grief, chronic illness, and relationship issues. Feeling understood and valued within a supportive, nurturing environment allows us to access deeper exploration and healing, emotional release, & the integration of new mind-body connections. Regardless of how ingrained and automatic your patterns might be, and how stuck you might feel, a more peaceful life is possible.

With specialized training in EMDR and IFS I can help you resolve both "t" and "T" traumas - situational and attachment-based traumas.
Trauma can leave us feeling adrift. Unhappy and unsure of who we are. Emotions may be blunted or they may swing. This unhealthy way of being in the world negatively impacts our relationships, jobs, and friendships. To create a life that works for us we need to heal from our trauma; to nurture and strengthen a place within where we can make healthy choices. We can grow to honor who we are at our core and live from there.

I am a seasoned clinician with a relaxed and respectful approach. I enjoy working with clients who are ready to address the issues that are holding them back or getting in their way. Depression, Anxiety, Divorce, Relationship issues, Parenting, Adjustment issues, and Issues of Childhood. Therapy is an interactive process. You are the expert in your own life and experience. You will be treated as a unique individual, not a diagnosis. I give honest and direct feedback with minimal quiet nodding, (unless required).

Seeing what is true relieves anxiety and opens one up; it is freeing. Life brings profound events to us, often without our permission. Our culture and society can challenge our sense of safety and our willingness to reach out for what we need. We take it personally because it is all around us. It can be confusing to try to figure out what exactly we have the ability to change. How do we identify and then begin our own heart’s work? If you are looking for a therapist, it is most likely because you need support and new information to get unstuck, to connect, to heal, or to just get your groove back on.

I believe that relationships determine a lot about how we interact with the world - in both helpful and less helpful ways. Our behaviors, attitudes, thoughts, feelings, and relationship styles are reinforced over time by our experiences, families, partners, environments, and culture. Psychotherapy can help when stress, trauma, life transitions, or difficult relationships call for new ways of coping and navigating our lives.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
