I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor for the state of Alabama. I graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master's in Counselor Education and from the University of Alabama with an Education Specialist in Counselor Education. I have over 18 years of experience working with children, adolescents, teens, and adults experiencing a wide range of behavioral, emotional, and relationship issues.

I can't do this anymore. I am tired of battling the same negative thoughts over and over. I am on a cycle of depression that leads to unhealthy coping which make me feel more shame and then the depression hits again. My relationships with my family are suffering. I feel stuck and unsure of which way to turn. Who can I trust? Can I really change?

I would like to help a person to recognize his/her issues, and then find a reasonable solutions to solving the problems.

I love helping others to see and become the best version of themselves. I'm passionate about understanding others and being an open ear to listen no matter what life issues you have. l believe it's important to love yourself and evaluate your thoughts. I have done a lot of work with men, women, and adolescents addressing their substance use (sometimes helping them to fulfill an obligation of court or family). But I enjoy talking with people about all life issues--goals, anxiety, depression, self confidence, self-harm, relationship issues, family issues, and healing. I have overcome a lot myself and I'd like to see you do the same!

As a mental health counselor, my primary commitment is to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space for individuals of all ages who are navigating various challenges, including trauma, transitions, and the complexities of daily life. Instead, I strive to be the "ideal" therapist for each client. Every client presents with different problems, different goals, and different motivators. Therefore, it is my job as the therapist to meet each client where they are at and provide them with the services they need and deserve. The one thing that I believe all clients have in common is the desire to take action that will promote them to a higher level of functioning in their every day life.

I began human service work in 1986 after receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Counseling from the University of Montevallo, located in Montevallo, Alabama. I received my Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Montevallo in 1994. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2001. I am currently licensed in Alabama and Georgia (inactive at present in Georgia), and am a board certified supervisor for those wishing to become licensed counselors. I focus on the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, so that my patient can change a negative pattern of thought that prevents joy. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is also utilized in therapy.
