I firmly believe in creating a warm, enthusiastic, informative, and authentic environment for individuals to enable them to reach their goals and fullest potential - whatever that may be. Reasons for entering therapy vary - some people are looking for coping skills, a solution to specific problem, someone to help them gain more insight or simply someone to talk to. I embrace people’s individuality and do not believe that one size fits all. Although I am more heavily trained in cognitive behavioral therapy I consider myself an eclectic psychologist and utilize research based techniques from various different subfields of psychology.

My belief is that each client is unique, and therefore no single style of treatment can be utilized for every situation. Having over twenty-three years working in the fields of mental health and substance abuse, I believe in empowering people to develop and achieve their personal goals rather than dictating the course of treatment for them. Every individual comes to therapy with the hope of making some positive change. I give them the tools they need to make this possible. The client is always in the driver's seat, no exceptions in this regard.

Sometimes all that stands in the way of your happiness and peace of mind is the way you think about things. It's remarkable how our own thoughts can work against us creating anxiety, depression and an overall feeling of being trapped or stuck. There is great relief in the realization that the happiness you truly want and deserve is actually within your control! Whether your goal is diminishing your fears, gaining a better understanding of why you feel so sad, finally having the healthy relationship you have been yearning for, reducing stress, finding balance, or finally being able to answer that question, "What will make me happy?"

Maybe you’re suffering from depression or anxiety. Maybe you’re just overwhelmed by your job and your relationships. Either way, I am confident that I can help you. Whether you need help coming up with solutions to your problems, a chance to vent and unload every week, or a space to ‘dive deeper’ into your history, my approach can accommodate you. I uphold that you do not have to ‘find the right fit’ with a really good therapist—they will fit themselves to you. That’s what I aim to do for you.

I am culturally aware and sensitive to the unique backgrounds, customs, and worldviews of my clients. I am a compassionate therapist who appreciates working side by side with my clients on their therapeutic journey. I utilize a multimodal approach to treatment as I recognize that there is no one approach that applies to all situations. Through building a solid rapport and forming a strong treatment alliance with my clients, I work to help my clients learn healthy and adaptive coping skills, increase awareness, and experience greater joy and meaning in their lives.

My clinical experience is in helping people holistically manage and improve a range of important areas: including personal and professional relationships, understanding one's self-image and identity, and managing emotions such as anger, depression, anxiety, grief, and stress. My therapeutic approach is earnest, flexible, and collaborative in nature. Whether it is learning new coping strategy, helping you connect to your feelings and thoughts, or making sense of something that seems confusing, my aim is to be a fellow traveler alongside you, curiously exploring and offering new perspectives to your experiences.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
