There are four main ideas in relapse prevention. First, relapse is a gradual process with distinct stages. The goal of the group is to recognize the early stages. Second, recovery is a process of growth and development. Third, the main tools of relapse prevention are cognitive behavioral treatment to develop healthy coping skills. Fourth, relapse is explained in terms of rules . 1) your life needs change ; 2) to be rigorously honest; 3) ask for help; 4) self-care; and 5) follow the rules.
