Hi, I'm Zenobia. Thanks for taking the time to read my profile. I hope I can be of assistance. I use a holistic approach where we look at thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and self (mind, heart, body and soul) within the biological, familial, cultural, social, and political contexts in which we are born and live. I am interested in more than just easing your symptoms. Therapy will raise your self awareness and bring into consciousness the unconscious wishes and fears which drive behaviour and underlie psychological distress. By integrating these forces, we realise the true self and can begin to live authentically.

Helping couples to build healthy relationships through enhancing their communication, intimacy and sense of connection is one of my passions. Whether you're having difficult feeling heard by your partner, are having the same arguments that don't get resolved, want to bring back the spark to your partnership, or are needing healing after an affair there is still hope and I'd be happy to work with you.

I’m a generally registered psychologist who’s friendly nature and client-centred approach to therapy allow clients to feel supported, heard, and understood. I provide a safe collaborative space for clients to explore their unique challenges using evidenced based practices. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship based on empathy and trust underpins meaningful and lasting change. I also understand that reaching out for support is the first step but it’s often the most difficult.

If you're recovering from narcissistic abuse you're probably here because you're determined to get your life back on track. I understand the feelings and confusion you're likely to be experiencing right now - I've been there too. It can feel completely overwhelming at times, you might wonder if you'll ever be able to trust people again after so many traumatic experiences. Your kindness, sensitivity, compassion and empathy probably feel like a total liability right now. But it's important to know that there's hope - it's possible to return to yourself, regain your unique spark and move forward with a whole new level of confidence.

Domestic Abuse Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
