I support people through a range of challenges including: Depression, Anxiety, Addiction, Relationships, Identity Crisis and Isolation.
I am committed to helping clients work through the challenges they face. I believe that every challenge in life is an opportunity for growth, and I actively work with clients to turn their challenges into life changing opportunities. I understand that each person has the capacity to find the answers they seek within themselves, and I actively work with clients by deeply exploring the areas of concern and creating the conditions where the answers can be revealed. In this way, my counselling sessions are geared towards self-exploration which ultimately enable client growth and self-awareness.

Have you found yourself struggling to cope, or just feeling like you are wondering through life to only just get through the day? Often times we are living in survival mode, and the past is living through us. This can leave us feeling like present moment has robbed by our past trauma. The goal of my Psychotherapy work, is to walk along side you. As a guide for yourself to help the parts of yourself that you might have blocked out. This will help you be more present with live, feel more home within yourself, and feel the freedom of new possibilities that are within yourself.

My ideal client would be someone who is motivated to change, and keen to understand their own behaviours and motivations in hopes for a more balanced life. I have a passion for understanding human behaviour, our motivations and what influences our choices, decisions, and actions whether conscious or subconscious. I find the dynamics between people and their environment fascinating, and how individual differences allow us to perceive the world in our own unique ways.

“Thank you for reaching out and taking the first, and hardest step towards a better life. I’m glad you’re here. No matter where you are in life, how bad you think things are or that there is no light at the end of the tunnel, i look forward to guiding you to a healthier and happier life. I look forward to getting to know you as an individual and to know the details that make you unique; the little parts of you that others just don’t seem to understand. Help and hope work great together, and i look forward to being able to do the same with you!”

Are you struggling with PTSD, complex PTSD, or any addiction? Is your current therapy just not working even though you tried your hardest? Recent brain research tells us that talk therapy doesn't give us the expected outcomes we once thought. We know that traumatic incidents can affect us years later. Our brain stores past traumas in a particular way that tries to keep us safe from disturbing memories; we know that the trauma resurfaces elsewhere. It comes out in flashbacks, heightened nervous system responses or self-soothing behaviours, which result in addictions. If you feel like you are going around in circles, help is at hand.

My clinical expertise has been developed in various clinical settings; for the last 20 years I developed evidence-based clinical skills aimed to improve measurable treatment outcomes for individuals aged 18+ experiencing substance misuse issues/and co-morbidity issues, including mood/anxiety/personality disorders, family/parenting/relationship issues.
Seeking help from a psychologist could be overwhelming and stressful. It may be seen as a sign of weakness or suggest that there is something wrong with the person. My professional aim is to assist the person seeking help in a collaborative, compassionate and authentic manner, in a therapeutic space where personal issues are viewed as opportunities to discover personal strengths, to foster personal growth and improve quality of life. I am deeply committed to empower individuals in overcoming the social stigma associated with mental health issues and I value each person’s uniqueness during their engagement in mental health recovery.

The following quote continues to resonate and inspire me: ‘I think the most beautiful thing in the world is watching the light come back on in someone’s eyes when they have been lost in the dark for so long.’ The light slowly returned to my eyes when I embarked on my own recovery journey 11 years ago. The unexpected gift that emerged from the struggle was a passion for the transformative recovery process and helping guide others out of the darkness. I am a Registered Counsellor and have worked at treatment centers throughout Australia over the last 10 years, most recently at South Pacific Private in Sydney for 6.5 years.

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
