I have over 17 years of experience working with a range of presenting issues in the field of child and adolescent mental health, family therapy, play therapy, and primary and secondary schools settings.
All children want to feel understood, accepted and loved, but sometimes the opposite is experienced in day to day relationships with their parents, siblings, and at school. These feelings can be overwhelmingly frustrating, confusing and stressful for you and your child. You have tried so many ways to help your child and worry about your family's emotional and mental well-being. I can help you and your child gain insight, break through the negative experiences and restore hope. Through our work together, you will feel more supported and your child will improve their self esteem.

Sexuality is multidimensional that engages all areas of life: mental, emotional, physical and social. Understanding the psychology and the culture through which sexuality is experienced is integral to finding well being and happiness. Shame, guilt, anxiety, as well as other psychological or medical conditions, can profoundly affect how we experience sexuality and deeply impact or attach itself to the complexities of our personal history and life experiences.

I am an Art Therapist who is committed to support the development of my clients, physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Art therapy creates a visual language of communication and personal expression as an alternative to 'talk only' therapy, when words or feelings are hard to express. My person-centred and psychodynamic approach to therapy is also informed by IFS and Mindfulness practice. I am a creative and thoughtful individual who works in a collaborative and compassionate manner with children, young people and adults when their emotions, thinking and behaviour is out of balance.

I provide therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have experience treating a wide range of presentations, with training in eating disorders and trauma. I would suit clients seeking an affable and approachable clinical psychologist. I use an attachment framework through my work, collaborating with adult clients to understand how present difficulties are informed by historical experience. Starting with this understanding, I motivate and empower clients to make meaningful change in their lives. Working with children and adolescents I use a family systems approach, supporting parents to support their young person.

I offer a human service. I hold space for my clients, so that they can share and tell their story with the guarantee of safety. Together, we look at the things in their life that are no longer serving them, or holding them back from living the life they imagined. Unhelpful patterns, relationships, processes, may all be holding people back from crafting the life that they want to live.

Life's for sure, a roller coaster. Along with the ups, there will naturally be downs - illness, pain, worry, conflict, transitions and loss. Sometimes we can hang on for the ride and who will be in the seat beside us; at other times, we may feel pummelled, adrift or even alone in our experience. Being heard, seen, and validated can begin a process of deep understanding and change. I am a degree-qualified Therapist and eating disorder clinician who's passionate about providing ethical and evidence-based support to all clients, no matter their concerns. You might like to see me in my CBD or Petersham rooms.

Teen Counsellors
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
