You may be experiencing depression, anxiety, grief and loss or the effects of past or recent trauma and don’t know how to process your recovery; you may be a couple in crisis or wanting to build a better relationship but don’t have the tools; you may be ‘sick and tired’ of feeling ‘tired and sick’ - struggling with addiction or a family member of someone living with addiction. I tailor counselling and psychotherapy to meet individual clients’ needs, collaborating to build a safe and trusted therapeutic relationship. I use Gottmans’ approach to support couples to repair damaged relationships and build a ‘sound relationship house’.

Hello. I am a registered psychologist with twenty years experience. I treat a wide variety of issues, however, my passion area is eating, weight and emotions. I am skilled at working with clients of all weights (from underweight to overweight/obese) and address the "why" of eating/dieting behaviour rather than just the "what". It is best to tackle a problem by understanding the causes. I also work with people with binge eating disorder, bulimia, body image issues and other related problems in a caring and empowering way. If you want to manage your health by normalising your relationship with food, I may be able to help.

I get it. You're struggling with balancing work and life and trying to make sense of how to not be so frustrated and angry about the state of your world when it all seems too much. Then trying to explain it all to someone (perhaps your partner) when it gets too much but who can only offer a sympathetic nod or unhelpful advice such as 'just get over it' or 'you're being dramatic!' (which rarely helped in the history of advice!). The problem is not having space or the ability to try and untangle your thoughts amidst trying to just stay afloat in an ever-increasing complex world with competing demands on your attention and sanity.

Hi! I'm Diana. I'm a registered Psychotherapist with over 20 years experience working in Private Practice. The reality of life is that it's filled with ups and downs. At times we can feel lost, stuck or overwhelmed. Relationships can be difficult to navigate. Marriages can go through periods of distress and disconnection. Or sometimes we cannot find a way out of our grief and loss. Trying to cope alone we often end up going around in circles. I'm passionate about providing a safe, non-judgemental and caring space for you to talk, work through, or resolve, whatever life situation you are experiencing.

Do you battle through relationship issues, and feel like you have given so much of yourself to your spouse that you’ve lost yourself? Perhaps you feel lonely, isolated and unsupported by your spouse. You may have found yourself experiencing patterns of behaviour that feel confusing and draining as you try to work out how to get your relationship back to where it once was. Your self-esteem has taken a deep dive and you question how you ended up here. After all, you are an intelligent, decent, kind and caring human being…but it’s hard to like yourself when your reactions aren’t concurrent with who you want to be…who you used to be…

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
