Jeffrey S. Nevid, Ph.D., ABPP

Jeffrey Nevid, Ph.D., ABPP, is a professor of psychology at St. John’s University in Queens, New York, where he formerly served as Director of the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology for more than 30 years. He is also a practicing psychologist, with offices in Manhattan and Queens and by teletherapy, (posted on Psychology Today provider network), specializing in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Nevid is board certified in Clinical Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and is a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology (FAClinP) and the American Psychological Association (APA). He was the recipient of the 2022 Charles L. Brewer Distinguished Teaching of Psychology Award from the American Psychological Foundation.

Nevid completed his doctoral degree in clinical psychology at SUNY Albany and was awarded a National Institute of Mental Health Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Evaluation Research at Northwestern University. He has conducted research in many areas of psychology and has amassed more than 200 professional publications and presentations. He is also the author or co-author of more than a dozen books in psychology and related fields, including several leading college textbooks such as Essentials of Psychology: Concepts and Applications (Cengage Learning), Abnormal Psychology in a Changing World and Human Sexuality in a Changing World (both published by Pearson Education), and Psychology and the Challenges of Life: Adjustment and Growth and Exploring Health Psychology (John Wiley). His other books in the field include the self-help book, BT/Behavior Therapy: Strategies for Solving Problems in Living, published by Doubleday & Co.
