I utilize a person-centered approach to therapy, often integrating humanistic, acceptance, and commitment therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
My ideal client is curious about themselves and the world and actively participates in the therapeutic process. I enjoy working with young adults and older adults, but I'm not limited to these populations. My ideal client is at a place of feeling "stuck" in their life. Whether that be a career transition, deciding on a college major, feeling lost in a relationship, or a new onset of symptoms. I am also comfortable with helping individuals unpack their past to understand their current habits. My ideal client wants to understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to develop self-awareness and self-compassion along the way.

I bring an unbiased, fair approach, tempered with kindness and acceptance, to the intricate and often painful situations that can arise between people who love each other.
Have you lost the spark in your relationship? Do you long for the sexual intimacy and companionship you once enjoyed? Do you struggle to communicate over even the simplest matters? Has your bond together been assaulted by addiction, infidelity or an emotional affair, and you are seeking to heal? Or have the ordinary stressors of everyday life, work, home, kids and finances driven a wedge between you and your significant other? You are not alone . . .

Utilizing ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), I help clients work through the emotional challenges that often coincide with chronic illness and the struggles that come from ongoing mental health issues.
Living life with a chronic illness is often lonely and difficult. Having worked as a chronic illness mental health provider for the last 7 years, I can truly understand and support individuals who live their lives with a disease that is often invisible to others. I also work with parents and other caregivers who have a child with a chronic illness, or other unique challenges. I also have many years of experience counseling adults with depression, anxiety, high functioning autism spectrum disorder, and mood disorders.

I thrive when working with young women. Whether they’re struggling with school-related stress or struggling to process a breakup, I can quickly build rapport with folks in this demographic. My treatment plans include goals dedicated to helping people identify their triggers for emotional dysregulation. I believe in the importance of somatic and cognitive level wellness strategies and work to have my clients learn and implement both sets of skills. I have enjoyed working with a variety of diagnoses, including adjustment disorder, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and PTSD.

Parenting feels hard because it is hard! It can feel isolating and like no matter what books you read, webinars you watch, podcasts you listen to, and strategies you try, nothing seems to work or have a lasting impact. This can drain your cup and leave you feeling exhausted, stressed, and overwhelmed. While you love your child with all of your being, it can be hard to find moments of joy and connection. Therapy can help you understand yourself and your child in new ways to rebuild a positive relationship.

My ideal clients are people who have been unable to find someone they can pull back the veil covering their heart because of past betrayals, lack of trust, cultural roadblocks, or some other barrier that keeps the true source of their burden hidden. You are looking for a space where you can be honest, not with me, but with yourself. You're looking for someone who can listen without judgment and accompany you on your healing journey. You are seeking someone to either walk with you through your journey and hold you accountable for the goals you set for yourself or for someone who can simply listen with an open mind.

My ideal client would be someone who is trying to make connections from their past to the present, not to relive their past, but to understand why they may be struggling in the present. Learning to let go of old habits, old ways of thinking that were dysfunctional, is key to living mindfully in the present. Changing the response to the narrative is important to be able to move forward from your past experiences.

Families are important to me, and learning to communicate in a world where technology and careers can disconnect the family—building bonds and relationships, learning to encourage and recognize the positive in others, and rebuilding relationships. To find the importance, look at past trauma individually, explore the impact trauma has on current situations, and heal the trauma to inspire the future and achieve success.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
