A.S. Barwich, Ph.D., is a cognitive scientist and bench philosopher. She is Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science and Cognitive Science Program at Indiana University Bloomington.

Prior, she has held research fellowships at Columbia University and the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research. Barwich has published several articles on topics in cognition and the philosophy of science, including in Cell, Frontiers in Neuroscience, Frontiers in Psychology, New Ideas in Psychology, Studies in History and Philosophy of Science, and other outlets.

Her book, Smellosophy: What the Nose Tells the Mind (Harvard University Press), investigates a deceptively simple question: What does the nose tell the brain—how does the brain understand it?
