I’m a clinical psychologist offering online therapy for adults. My approach is grounded in evidence-based practices and guided by current psychological research. I draw on a range of effective therapeutic methods, tailoring each process to suit the unique needs and goals of the individual. People come to therapy for many different reasons, and because of this, I believe in a flexible approach. I aim to work in a focused, time-sensitive way when possible, but also offer longer-term therapy when deeper or ongoing support is needed.

I am a gentle therapist and you can expect a non-judgemental space in which you will hopefully feel comfortable and safe. I see therapy as a collaborative process and I am passionate about my work. I also offer online therapy sessions if you prefer this.

Using EMDR and BWRT, I work with distressing memories, anxiety, phobias, binge eating, self-sabotaging thoughts and unwanted habits, drawing on neuroscience-informed approaches to support lasting change.
I help clients “overwrite” unhelpful patterns in the brain. Using EMDR and BWRT, we reprocess trauma, anxiety and self-sabotage, clearing old data and creating new responses. Schema Therapy can add depth for those wanting to explore underlying patterns and gain insight, supporting lasting change.

My therapy approach is trauma-informed and grounded in EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), an evidence-based approach that helps the nervous system process difficult experiences that continue to shape how you feel, think, and relate — even when you logically know “things should be fine
Hi there, I'm Tarryn and I'm a clinical psychologist practising in windy Blouberg. I understand that being a human is no easy feat! Life can throw unexpected changes, stressors and losses our way, leaving you feeling overwhelmed, stuck in self-doubt or just not feeling yourself. I provide support for women navigating the complexities of motherhood, anxiety, perfectionism, trauma and people-pleasing. I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space to explore how experiences, relational patterns and unprocessed emotional wounds may be contributing to current distress.

My work is embodied, compassionate and creative, and includes talk therapy, EMDR, creative expression, mindfulness, parts and inner-child work, and sandtray.
As an experienced Counselling Psychologist, registered with the HPCSA, I believe that we are all vulnerable to emotional harm and that we all go through times when we need emotional support. This makes sense given the stress and challenge of everyday life and the complexity of our lives, relationships and transitions like marriage, relocation and retirement. Clients have often told me how much they have valued being deeply listened to during their therapy sessions, how feeling heard, seen understood and "felt" really mattered ... and how being compassionately supported towards positive change made all the difference in their lives.

Taking the first step in your mental health is a brave venture. Finding the right therapist for this process is important. Therapeutic relationships should provide you with a sense of safety to explore the most vulnerable parts of you. In the words of Brené Brown "Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light."

I work with different modalities including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming ( EMDR).
We all have habitual ways of responding to what happens in our lives. These patterns were often shaped by our experiences; both more recent events and those we experienced in childhood. We learn to survive. At times our old ways of coping become less functional as our lives and circumstances change and it becomes necessary pause and re-evaluate. Often this is a point where someone feels very stuck or overwhelmed and they need the support of a therapist. Let me help you connect, grow and heal.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
