I have a special interest in ADHD, conversion disorders, dreams, & long COVID.
As a neuropsychologist and psychotherapist, I started 'Maia Psychology' to help people understand themselves, through a blend of neuroscience and psychology. My practice is named after the ancient Sanskrit concept "Maia", meaning 'the illusory magic of the universe appearing'. For me, Maia really refers to our fundamental ability (and inability) to perceive ourselves, others, and the world around us. This is what psychology is ultimately all about. I named my practice after this concept to emphasise my wish to nurture a truly holistic neuropsychological practice; one that seriously considers all that makes you who you are.

I specialize in working with LGBT+ individuals, living with ADHD and anxiety, and sexual issues.
Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you’re not sure what to expect. Much of my work is with LGBTQ+ clients, neurodiverse clients, and those navigating sex and intimacy. These can be very sensitive topics, which is why creating a space that feels safe, supportive, and genuinely comfortable is one of my highest priorities. For anyone who doesn't have all the words yet, for anyone who feels different - let's create a space where you can put down the mask and focus on the journey forward.

There are times in life when we feel stuck and there seems to be no way forward. You might struggle to concentrate, feel anxious and stressed all the time, lie awake at night, and get angry for no apparent reason. You might also experiences more severe symptoms like phobias, panic attacks, social anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance abuse, self harm, eating disorders etc. The reason might not be apparent, but sometimes it might relate back to unresolved traumatic experiences you've had growing up like bullying, sexual abuse or rape, family violence, sibling rivalry, parents divorce, death of a loved one.

I really enjoy working with clients who are feeling frustrated or stuck in their lives/ relationships and keep bumping up against the same obstacles in one way or another. Their aim for therapy is to understand why this keeps happening and to grow and develop beyond it. There are usually patterns in a person's life and it's so liberating when a client is able to see and understand them

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
