If you have been traumatized or have suffered a loss and are stuck in a cycle of addiction, I am here to help you navigate these issues and experience the change, relief, and lightness you’re looking for.
Trauma work is my passion and addiction are often closely related to past traumas. Addiction by its very nature is often complicated by various other co-morbid diagnoses such as depression and anxiety and PTSD and personality issues and it affects both the individual and their families and very often wreaks havoc in everybody’s lives.

As an experienced Counselling Psychologist, registered with the HPCSA, I believe that we are all vulnerable to emotional harm and that we all go through times when we need emotional support. This makes sense given the stress and challenge of everyday life and the complexity of our lives, relationships and transitions like marriage, relocation and retirement. Clients have often told me how much they have valued being deeply listened to during their therapy sessions, how feeling heard, seen understood and "felt" really mattered ... and how being compassionately supported towards positive change made all the difference in their lives.

These are the main issues I can help you with: belonging, identity, rejection, isolation, burnout, family wounds, life transitions (including loss and hidden grief), uncertainty about the future, anxiety from the pressure to maintain productivity and exclusion.
Change, loss, and the grief of leaving people or places behind can feel overwhelming, especially when life keeps moving. You may feel unanchored, yearning for stability, understanding, or a way to process the emotions that come with transition and belonging. Together, we can explore the stories of your inner and outer world, unpacking the challenges of uprootedness, identity, and relationships through creative processes. Let’s work toward grounding you in the present while honoring your journey. Change is hard, but within it lies the possibility of growth, connection, and the hope of finding home—wherever you are.

Everyone needs someone some of the time. School going children and adults all experience challenges throughout their life time. Trauma such as parents separating or are in the process of divorce, bereavement can be quite debilitating for children. Learning difficulties can make the school experience very challenging too. Children responses to trauma may result in enuresis or encopresis and other regressive behaviours. Adults struggling to come to terms with childhood trauma, bereavement, divorce, domestic violence and trauma, all of which can negatively affect functioning in daily life. Depression & anxiety often follow trauma.

I am passionate about working with women and those who are navigating life transitions, loss and shifting intergenerational patterns.
I am an Arts Therapist (drama therapy): a creative, expressive psychotherapy. Words are not the only language we can use; depending on your need we can use story, symbol, artmaking, movement, ritual and creative mapping to access that which often lies beyond words. These can support self-curiosity, and help find new perspectives on things that feel 'stuck'.

Grief Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
