Life stressors seem to be amplified at the moment, while
anxiety
and depression are on the rise. Issues of mental health do not have to be dealt with on one's own. A psychotherapy process can offer support by exploring issues, unlearning destructive patterns and creatively replacing them with ones that promote well-being.

The goal of therapy is to improve quality of life and and wellness in every dimension of one's life. Trauma, depression or
anxiety
could impact greatly on one's happiness, functioning and well being. Workplace stress may also impact on health and well being.

Feel free to contact me if you struggle with
anxiety
and/or depression.
My main focus is individuals in crisis whether acute or not. I specialise in treating anxious and depressed individuals. I provide a safe space in which to understand the reasons underlying
anxiety
and depression and identify maladaptive coping strategies. Then we work to replace the maladaptive coping strategies with healthy ones. I also enjoy couples therapy and interventions targeting parenting issues. In addition I offer supportive therapy to individuals who are struggling with substance use.

To consider therapy as such can be a daunting and
anxiety
provoking step that takes courage.
I consult with individuals or couples over the age of 18 years. Most of the time the individuals seek insight and solutions to personal, professional or life challenges. These challenges may include
anxiety
or depression that is associated to internal or interpersonal conflict. Notably, individuals seek empathy and compassion with a therapist who tends to be more interactive and collaborative.

I work individually with adults who might be feeling overwhelmed or struggling to cope with difficulties that may be related to depression,
anxiety
, trauma and life changes. For the treatment of depression and
anxiety
disorders, I primarily make use of a skills based approach called Metacognitive Therapy (MCT). I am a certified EMDR practitioner, a helpful approach for the processing of trauma. I also draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic approaches, depending on the specific needs of the client.

I consult clients who struggle with a variety of issues such as depression,
anxiety
, eating disorders, ADHD, bereavement, trauma, burn-out, work stress, coping, self-esteem and relationship problems.
All of us at some point might need support to deal with the many challenges of life, whether it be a personal crisis, a loss, an addiction, a feeling of stuckness or a change in one's ability to cope. I offer compassionate and non-judgemental psychotherapy for adolescents and adults. It is not always easy to take the first step to start therapy and to be vulnerable, but allowing yourself to open up is often the start of the journey towards acceptance or change.

My expertise is working with adults and late adolescents, in dealing with: Depression,
Anxiety
, Bi-polar disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Eating disorders, Bereavement and loss.
Therapy can be an amazing, transformative process towards living a dramatically better life. Ideally the adults or adolescents who get the most out of therapy, want to really engage in the process. They should feel free to say anything; about how their day went, how they're dealing with problems in their life and even the therapy itself. By the eventual end of the whole process, I want clients to feel happier or more energized, be able to let go of toxic people in their life, and being more assertive in making life choices that are right for them.

I enjoy working with people who seek to find ways to continue to find positive meaning and to get the most out of life despite the inevitable difficulties that life may throw their way.

My practice focuses on individual adult therapy. As resilient as we are as individuals, sometimes our psychological, social and emotions difficulties become really overwhelming and it becomes difficult to cope. During those times, one can develop mental health challenges, that impact on one’s day to day functioning. When that happens, for a time in our lives, we may need professional assistance in our healing and recovery journeys to better psychological health. This can be daunting or scary, but a brave choice to make.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
