No doubt you are looking at this site because you want something in your life to change. You want to feel better, get out of a repetitive rut, make some relationship changes or improvements, or just feel better within your own skin. My clients find it a huge relief to share and process their concerns - within the safe space of my counselling room or via secure online therapy. I believe strongly in a gentle therapy method - a non-judgemental and compassionate attitude - creating a safe, nurturing space for healing and change to begin. I am very aware of how vulnerable one feels in making that first appointment. It is worth it!

One of the main wellsprings of therapy is love. People arrive with spilling pockets and framed seams from various forms of love gone wrong, each with their own story: of love that has nowhere to go; a love lost or denied, twisted or betrayed, perverted and shackled to violence. These broken attachments are what I work with. Having studied the science, history, philosophy and art of therapy for 10 years, I know that when people get enough exposure to kindness, sanity, and care, we can empty those pockets and knit seams together.

Sometimes life can be hard and we can feel overwhelmed and defeated by circumstances and experiences. Do you feel disconnected or isolated from your friends and family? Do you feel tired all the time? Do you feel burned out? Do you feel anxious and uncertain about what's happening in your life? Are you struggling with a relationship, whether it's a family member or loved one? Do you often question yourself and your worth or value? Do you sometimes wake up wishing you were someone else? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I am here to hold your hand and listen to what you have experienced, how you think, and how you feel.

At times we may feel stuck or overwhelmed. We may know what is causing unease or pain, but often we struggle to understand the cause. A therapy relationship at these times, can bring better understanding and help you think in new ways about yourself, your relationships and your journey forward.

Anxiety Counsellors
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
