I'm Bryony and I'm a Registered Counsellor (RC). As an RC I am here to extend psychological services and make them accessible to you. I tend to base my interventions on the emotionally focussed therapy modality and have a passion for working with couples, although I don't specialise in it (just yet) and offer individual counselling too. As a mother myself, I have a deep connection to working with new or expecting parents as they navigate the transition into parenthood. My door is always open and I am available over email to answer any pre-booking questions you might have about the counselling process.

You have so many of the things you wanted, perhaps a committed relationship, kids, a great job… and yet, it’s all feeling kinda hard and a serious juggle.
It’s time to get to the root of things. Whether you are an individual or are seeking support as a couple, I can work with you to navigate the things that make life feel too much: patterns that seem to be on repeat, tricky relationship dynamics, traumas that still haunt you or a sense of overwhelm, burnout and disillusionment.

I offer psychological support to, adolescents and adults in the form of individual, couple, group and family therapy.

There are times in life when seeing a therapist can be beneficial, whether you are struggling with academic challenges, have recently experienced a traumatic loss or significant life change, or are dealing with problems related to your family, work, or managing stress. You don't need an excuse to see a therapist - if there are issues in your life that you want to discuss, or you're simply feeling down, seeing a therapist can help, even if it's on a short-term basis. I have been a therapist for more than 25 years. I have a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and specialize in sexual abuse - adolescents and adults welcomed.

Towards well-being and mental health: Below the surface is depth in our human experience -in ourselves and each other. How can we listen to this more? Being aware of one's needs and feelings, next to others', with calm assertiveness, centered in warm-hearted values is arguably one useful way. Briefer work available over a few sessions, or longer-term meetings. Sessions are scheduled according patients' own needs and pace. Being conscious of one's feelings, contemplations and values is arguably useful, and is central to therapy. I try to provide a down-to-earth, respectful and encouraging psychotherapy atmosphere.

I really enjoy working with clients who are feeling frustrated or stuck in their lives/ relationships and keep bumping up against the same obstacles in one way or another.
For me the root of almost every client issue has to do with self-esteem, usually developed during childhood. As a result clients develop faulty belief systems that can lead to negative destructive life patterns. I work with clients in unearthing these belief systems and developing responsibility in changing and shifting them to have healthier emotional lives

My specialisms include addiction, anxiety, depression, couples work, bereavement, relationship problems, self esteem, and trauma.
I offer counselling and therapeutic life coaching. Clients will come to me with a range of problems and often feel some confusion. In our work we will clarify the problem and see what is most challenging for you at the present time. We will discover where this confusion arises in the body and mind and be able to see what started it. Perhaps this has been triggered in the past: by an environment, people, a person, upbringing etc. The work we do is non-judgemental and my purpose is to help you find your way out of the confusion and suffering, so you can find success, purpose and meaning in your life. I will be with you all the way

I work with anyone who is looking to make a positive change in their lives. Counselling is a collaborative process where I hold the space for people to gain new insight into who and how they are, and then to work together to find better ways of navigating life's challenges that are practical, sustainable, and are rooted in a place of self-love.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
