Many of my clients are couples experiencing communication difficulties, emotional distance, or recurring conflict that feels hard to resolve on their own. I also support clients navigating family estrangement when a significant relationship has broken down and the way forward is unclear. My approach offers a calm, structured environment to explore what’s happening beneath the surface, clarify patterns, and begin moving toward healthier connection, repair, or direction.

Life can be brutal: the past haunts, interferes with the present and imperils the future. Counseling is a place to pause, reflect, and begin again. I believe there are no “bad” parts to people. Even the painful or overwhelming parts are trying, in their own way, to protect you. In counseling, we make space for all these parts to be seen and understood, while reconnecting with your deeper Self, that steady presence at the centre of it all. Therapy is not about reducing you to your struggles but about discovering new and practical ways to live more fully.

I’m a therapist and relationship specialist working with individuals, couples, families and teams to improve how people relate, communicate, navigate conflict, and function under pressure. At the core of my work is a simple focus: noticing nervous system dysregulation, through thought (mind), body (somatic awareness), feeling (emotions) & automatic reactions. I support individuals & couples in breaking unhelpful patterns to rebuild connection, tenderness and find the tools to communicate more effectively. We learn who we are through the mirror of the other in all our relationships. The first one is to ourselves.

I'm here to walk alongside you on your journey back home to yourself. I accompany people as they deal with life transitions, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, identity crises, suicide, burnout and trauma, from age 13 and up. To heal is to make whole again. It is calling back all the parts of ourselves that have been lost and exiled, tending to the old wounds, and coming alive to what we have inside of us. It is discovering all of who we are, and finding meaning in all of who we are.

I have worked with people for 30 years. Depending on the person my approach would vary. For some more clearly defined problems a short-term practical approach is suitable. I support the client to deal with his or her difficult situation and to find solutions which will work best in that particular setting. For more complex issues which have persisted over a long time it is necessary to explore and address the underlying issues in order to achieve long-term improvement. Therapy should provide a safe and professional space from where to start a journey with the aim to find more balance and greater enjoyment and meaning in life again.

No problem or difficulty you are experiencing is too small or too big to work on with me in your counselling sessions. Talking about it in a safe, confidential and non-judgement space helps. While the past is important, life is about the present. Gestalt work emphasises what happens in the present moment and what this might mean for you. I work holistically to help you raise your awareness about yourself. This takes into account the mind, body and spirit as well as the context of your life. I work in person, online and in the outdoors on request.

Life stressors seem to be amplified at the moment, while anxiety and depression are on the rise. Issues of mental health do not have to be dealt with on one's own. A psychotherapy process can offer support by exploring issues, unlearning destructive patterns and creatively replacing them with ones that promote well-being.

Mutual respect is one of the qualities I regard as an important element of the therapeutic relationship. I enjoy working with adults (men and woman) from any cultural background. Languages I am proficient in includes Afrikaans and English. We all experience challenges through our life’s journey and sometimes they become obstacles that are seemingly unbearable or impossible to overcome. Especially when the issue(s) are not concrete and difficult to articulate. Together we can evaluate and identify them, in order to address and find a process suitable to alleviate the hurt and suffering.

My psychotherapeutic stance is accepting and judgment-free. The therapeutic relationship is essential in effective therapy. Based on this, it is crucially important to get to know my clients on a personal level, and for my clients to get to know me. I position myself alongside my clients to collaboratively formulate a focused treatment plan.

Life presents all of us with complex challenges which are sometimes difficult to manage. E.g. what may be troubling is a recent interpersonal difficulty, or perhaps something unpleasant has happened or is still happening in your workplace (or school/college/university). You may have lost someone you were close to, or perhaps you were the victim of a crime. Alternatively, what may be troubling may be of a more long-standing nature, causing unresolved unhappiness. Or you may feel that life could be more fulfilling than it has been up to now, that it could be a happier, richer experience, with a sense of more well-being and freedom.

Men's Issues Counsellors
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
