My areas of specialty include (but are not limited to) Premarital counselling, Marriage and Relationship Counselling and Individual Counselling – issues relating to infidelity, trust, separation, divorce, parenting, co-parenting, family dynamics, anger management, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, intimacy and sex, loss of motivation, lack of goals, etc.
On a personal note, I am a married 46-year-old mother to an 11-year-old son. Why do I tell you this? Because I believe it is important for you to know that I have not only academic but also broad life experience. I have worked through much emotional and physical trauma in my life thus far, so I am able to understand the depths of feelings my clients present. I counsel both individuals and couples. I am currently in the process of completing my Imago Facilitator certification (through Imago Africa) to add another dimension to my counselling expertise.

My focus is on anxiety and stress management.
I believe counselling can benefit everyone. We all face challenges that can feel overwhelming, whether it’s managing work-related stress, finding balance in daily life, coping with grief, or addressing the impact of past experiences that continue to resurface. Life is complex, and clients often bring a range of concerns. Counselling provides a safe, supportive space to explore these experiences and to gain insight into the patterns that shape our lives. Together, we work on reflection, open conversation, and new perspectives all of which lie at the heart of the healing process.

So many are carrying the heavy weight of grief, heartache, loss of connection and so much more. We feel isolated, forgotten, alone in our struggles and often punish ourselves for feeling broken and lost. But the truth is you are stronger than you think, braver than you know, and most certainly not alone. I help people like yourself reconnect with themselves and others, learn new and healthy ways to cope, and find their own way towards healing and meaning.

I consult clients who struggle with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, ADHD, bereavement, trauma, burn-out, work stress, coping, self-esteem and relationship problems.
All of us at some point might need support to deal with the many challenges of life, whether it be a personal crisis, a loss, an addiction, a feeling of stuckness or a change in one's ability to cope. I offer compassionate and non-judgemental psychotherapy for adolescents and adults. It is not always easy to take the first step to start therapy and to be vulnerable, but allowing yourself to open up is often the start of the journey towards acceptance or change.

I support people navigating life transitions, anxiety, religious trauma, neurodivergence & gender identity journeys, with care for how these experiences overlap in real human ways.
My work is rooted in person-centred care and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have a psychodynamic background & a research interest in attachment theory. The combination of these practices are super helpful in the journey of connecting the dots, making sense of things as they are, while exploring how they came to be.

You are overwhelmed with anxiety and dissatisfaction.
Just like you, I'm human. Having spent 6 years interacting with thousands of healthcare users, have I learnt the importance of genuine connection in the service I offer. Once the connection is established, it becomes easier to break through defenses that is holding you back. I work with an eclectic approach to ensure that my approach suites your needs.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
