I also love working with couples to help them reconnect to each other, and, to themselves within their relationship.
I love helping people get to the core of what is going on for them in their internal and external worlds. Exploration of your past is one way to do this. Another is looking deeply into the way you are living your life right now. What patterns have unknowingly been created in your life and how are these limiting your capacity for joy and peace?

My specialisms include addiction, anxiety, depression, couples work, bereavement, relationship problems, self esteem, and trauma.
I offer counselling and therapeutic life coaching. Clients will come to me with a range of problems and often feel some confusion. In our work we will clarify the problem and see what is most challenging for you at the present time. We will discover where this confusion arises in the body and mind and be able to see what started it. Perhaps this has been triggered in the past: by an environment, people, a person, upbringing etc. The work we do is non-judgemental and my purpose is to help you find your way out of the confusion and suffering, so you can find success, purpose and meaning in your life. I will be with you all the way

Life can be full of important, painful and challenging relationships, and for me psychological support is a relationship experience that can lead to insight and positive change.
There may be a range of reasons why you need psychological support, and you could require short-term or more long-term work, and I am able to accommodate both. I charge within medical aid rates. I also offer online Zoom therapy, and work after hours and on weekends (Saturdays). I offer therapy to children, adolescents, adults and couples.

Healing a broken heart and facing the loneliness of marriage and relationship breakup, are of the most painful experiences that any human could have.
I’ve always had a deep curiosity regarding the effects that experiences in our lives have on us. How we form behaviors and habits that we don’t always understand I studied education, psychology and relationships, with a sincere desire to contribute to people's lives. Guiding people in navigating life’s challenges resonates strongly with me. Witnessing the transformations that deep insight and pragmatic intervention has on people, fuels my commitment to the cause. What are the deep needs you are trying to fulfill? I would love to help you to identify the mixed emotions that you are feeling and to guide you kindly in dealing with them

Miranda is currently writing her manual for couples on how to have mature, robust romantic relationships.
I help people who are stuck, in their heads or in undigested emotions, or in difficult life circumstances, relationships and families. I teach that the only person you can change is yourself, but when you do, the ripple effect is massive. Be the change you want to see, never mind what trauma has led to your anxiety, depression etc. We're all addicts: we all have devoted habits or coping mechanisms. After a while these harm us. Find another way. I use a Transpersonal approach because it's v effective. This means I remind you you are connected to something greater than yourself, however you define that - and how to employ that daily.

I understand that therapy works when there is a good fit in the relationship between the client and the psychologist.
I am registered with the Health Professions Council as a clinical and counselling psychologist. I have worked in private practice for over 25 years, and also in psychiatric hospitals for several years. I am comfortable working with a wide variety of challenges and difficulties. I enjoy working with adults and also with adolescents, accompanying them on their journey towards finding themselves as young adults who are able to function independently and who derive a sense of meaning and purpose from their lives.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
