Mutual respect is one of the qualities I regard as an important element of the therapeutic relationship. I enjoy working with adults (men and woman) from any cultural background. Languages I am proficient in includes Afrikaans and English. We all experience challenges through our life’s journey and sometimes they become obstacles that are seemingly unbearable or impossible to overcome. Especially when the issue(s) are not concrete and difficult to articulate. Together we can evaluate and identify them, in order to address and find a process suitable to alleviate the hurt and suffering.

Experience and ability to connect to persons of all age groups, all cultures and all backgrounds. Persons with problems of life do not always want to hear there is something "wrong" with them. Most of the time they can be facilitated to solve their own problems and grow towards more independence and maturity on a personal level. I see it as my task to facilitate change.

On the surface, it seems like things are okay. Objectively you have the things that society says is suppose to make you happy - yet you are not happy. You are overwhelmed with anxiety and dissatisfaction. No matter what you do, or force yourself to do, you just don't find it in anything. The last time you felt true joy was as a child on the playground. It seems as if though everyone around you is doing extremely well, so what is wrong with you for not feeling the same. This feeling is more common than you think. You are not as alone as you might think.

The foundation of my therapeutic approach is rooted in mindfulness and a deep understanding of how the nervous system responds to overwhelming or traumatic experiences. By fostering physiological safety and co-regulation, we can support your healing journey. Chronic anxiety and depression often leave us feeling disconnected, stuck in survival mode, and lacking purpose. What sets my approach apart is its foundation in trauma-informed modalities, compassion-based practices, and high-performance psychology, offering you a holistic and comprehensive path to mental health and well-being.

My ideal client would be someone genuinely invested in personal growth and open to the process of self-discovery. They may come to therapy grappling with complex life challenges or mental health issues—perhaps experiencing persistent anxiety, depression, or struggling with identity and purpose. This client might be facing major life transitions, such as career decisions, relationship changes, or the pressures of academic and professional demands, and they want support in navigating these changes in a way that aligns with their values.

As human beings, we strive towards becoming the best version of ourselves. But life often throws several curveballs at us which can lead to difficult times and severe emotional distress. However, it is never too late to practice the necessary self-care and reach out for guidance and support.

Life presents all of us with complex challenges which are sometimes difficult to manage. E.g. what may be troubling is a recent interpersonal difficulty, or perhaps something unpleasant has happened or is still happening in your workplace (or school/college/university). You may have lost someone you were close to, or perhaps you were the victim of a crime. Alternatively, what may be troubling may be of a more long-standing nature, causing unresolved unhappiness. Or you may feel that life could be more fulfilling than it has been up to now, that it could be a happier, richer experience, with a sense of more well-being and freedom.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
