Can you manage situations that are beyond your control? Do you have control over your perception and are you able to manage your reaction to such situations? Would you like to gain a new feeling, with new insight about how to best approach the stressful situation even as it is occurring?

Life is a precious gift, however, sometimes we do not perceive it as such due to the challenges we experience. If you find that you are negatively affected by past, present or perhaps future issues and you are not able to overcome them on your own, it is a sign that you should reach out for help, which takes place in a highly safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. Your mental health is a priority as it facilitates optimal functioning in other areas of live.

Counselling situations arise in our interactions with ourselves, friends, or family members. We are then hounded by self-doubt, or tortured by unnecessary fears grappling with terminal illness, struggling to deal with traumas,or even feeling stuck in abusive relationships or marriage. Counselling can help you identify your own personal resources and capabilities, which are sometimes lost or buried in times of anxiety and confusion. It provides you with a supportive, non judgemental, and confidential environment to explore any emotional , psychological,or social problems you may be encountering.

Your mental health is an integral part of your overall health. It is often overlooked or disregarded due to stigma. Stigma is a deterrent in seeking help, thereby prolonging your suffering. Your suffering may be due to work stress, problems in relationships, trauma, different forms of abuse, loss, etc. All these may be precipitants to the development of a mental health condition. Living with a mental health condition negatively impacts all areas of functioning. I am here to help you improve your functioning and ultimately assist you in achieving your goal of optimum mental health.

Hi there! I work with people of all ages to address emotional and behavioural issues as well as scholastic challenges in children and adolescents. I am a person centered therapist, meaning that I believe that all my clients have unlimited potential that can be developed. I’m also a pragmatic person who seeks solutions for problems with my clients and provide tailored tools to deal with emotional problems. I worked in the academic field where I trained counselors and teachers, before focusing on private practice full time. I was a senior lecturer at NWU and contract lecturer at UP in Educational Psychology and Education.

Each of us experience emotional difficulties or life challenges from time to time. When we are disconnected from who we are and our purpose in life, it can significantly affect many areas of our lives. Therapy can help towards understanding ourselves, to allow us to make the necessary changes and to live a more meaningful life.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
