They say stepfamily life is "an adjustment." They don't tell you about the loneliness, the loyalty binds, the grief, or what it does to a couple when a family won't 'blend'. If you're a stepmother running on empty, a divorced father caught between two households, or a couple who thought love would be enough, this is for you. I'm a stepmother, and my husband and I have built a stable, kind, blended family with our two sons the past six years. I'm also a qualified counsellor and coach with a background in organisational psychology trained in Smart Stepfamily methodology . Love and patience isn't enough.

I help people who are stuck, in their heads or in undigested emotions, or in difficult life circumstances, relationships and families. I teach that the only person you can change is yourself, but when you do, the ripple effect is massive. Be the change you want to see, never mind what trauma has led to your anxiety, depression etc. We're all addicts: we all have devoted habits or coping mechanisms. After a while these harm us. Find another way. I use a Transpersonal approach because it's v effective. This means I remind you you are connected to something greater than yourself, however you define that - and how to employ that daily.

I work with individuals (adolescents and adults), couples and families who need psychological assistance and/or relationship tools. I am a compassionate psychotherapist, with an additional certification as an Imago Relationship Therapist. I am also qualified to run Imago "Getting The Love you Want" workshops for couples. I do not believe that labelling a client as a "problem" is helpful; rather, the therapeutic process with me is about creating self-awareness, and working together to find creative solutions to the challenges that are facing each person that walks through my door. I encourage personal growth in all my clients.

I have experience in helping clients with challenges relating to depression, anxiety, trauma and grief - as symptoms of existing conditions, and/or as responses to circumstantial stress. I am also experienced in helping clients with the management of neurodivergent disorders (ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder). My approach pulls away from over analysis and rumination, towards figuring out how to sustainably feel and be better. This is accomplished by emphasising healthy thinking, health feeling and healthy behaving.

I've been a psychologist for 24 years, after a long business career. I'm committed to fostering a trusting relationship where individuals feel safe to open up and share their true selves. Together, we create a space where people discover inner qualities, strengths, and resilience, make sense of challenging situations and often painful pasts, and build a future where they maintain a strong sense of well-being. My experience shows that clients seek an open, honest, practical and future-focused therapist. I’m also a trained and experienced coach and can blend therapy and coaching.

Developmental and systemic trauma can profoundly shape how we show up in the world—as individuals, leaders, and members of community. I specialise in working with childhood and attachment trauma, as well as the systemic wounds related to race, gender, and organisational culture. My approaches support clients to metabolise and integrate these complex life experiences, deepening emotional embodiment, and restoring connection with innate wisdom, creative aliveness, and inner resources. Through the therapeutic process, we open pathways to greater meaning, social connection, and personal effectiveness.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
